🚂 There’s plenty happening next door this autumn! 🍂

One of our favourite things about staying at Watercress Lodges is having the The Watercress Line quite literally on the doorstep – and there’s lots to look forward to over the coming weeks.

The Autumn Steam Gala kicks things off from 2–4 October, followed by more special events as we head towards half term and Halloween. 🎃🚂

Whether you’re a railway enthusiast, planning a family break or simply fancy a few autumn days in the Hampshire countryside, our lodges make a rather handy base for exploring it all.

And when the adventures are over? Back to the lodge, kettle on and feet up. ☕🍁

If you're checking in on a Friday - skip the cooking and head down to Nosh cafe bar just down the road in Four Marks.

Each Friday they fire up the pizza oven and serve up some really delicious food.

Just down the hill from our lodges and campsite, something new is coming... The Ropley House! We're so excited to have a new pub in the village - there's nothing that brings a community together quite like a good pub in our opinion.

We're wishing the new management team the very best for opening next week - definitely one to consider when you next visit us!

This weekend, one of our favourite local spots, The Flower Pots Inn & Brewery, is getting ready for its annual B**r Festival! 🍻🎶

If you’ve never been before, it’s definitely worth a visit – expect great local b**r, a brilliant atmosphere and plenty of reasons to make a day of it.

Even better, you can leave the car at home and catch the shuttle bus from Alresford. 🚌

Thinking of packing up the car for the weekend? The good news is we still have campsite availability for this weekend (and it looks like we could enjoy some cooler temperatures).

The even better news is there is plenty going on in the local area - there is so much to do and explore, or you can stay on site and enjoy the sights and sounds of The Watercress Line as it pulls up at Ropley station.

From our elevated position, you'll get a great view from the campsite, but if you fancy making an evening of it, there are some great local hotspots below...

🌞 Where to watch the solar eclipse in and around Wi******er🌑

On Wednesday 12 August 2026, a partial solar eclipse will be visible from the UK. In Wi******er, the eclipse will begin at 6:18pm, end at 8:07pm and peak at 7:14pm.

The sun will be low in the sky, and you'll be able to see the solar eclipse in Wi******er from any high point with a clear view of the western horizon.

Good locations near Wi******er to view the solar eclipse include:

🌞 St Catherine’s Hill
🌞 St Gile’s Hill
🌞 Old Wi******er Hill
🌞 Cheesefoot Head
🌞 Farley Mount Monument
🌞 Stockbridge Down
🌞 Butser Hill
🌞 Danebury Hillfort

Some of Wi******er’s attractions are also holding special eclipse events including a Solar Eclipse Observation Special at The Watercress Line and Solar Eclipse: Live at Wi******er Science Centre.

⚠️ Protect your eyes! Never look directly at the sun without proper eclipse glasses with a suitable solar filter. Ordinary sunglasses are not safe. You can also make a pinhole projector to view it.

🌠 What's more, a few hours later when the sky is dark, the Perseid meteor shower will reach its peak, making 12 August also one of the best nights of the year for stargazing.
