Happy World Sea Turtle Day! 🐢💙

Today, we're celebrating these amazing ocean creatures who often make up some of the best encounters on our favourite dives. Here are a couple of fun facts about these serene sea dwellers:

🌊 There are seven species of sea turtles: green, hawksbill, loggerhead, olive ridley, leatherback, Kemp's ridley, and flatback.

🛡️ Unlike other turtles, sea turtles can’t hide in their shells.

🦖 Leatherback sea turtles have been around since the time of the dinosaurs!

🌺 Hawksbill sea turtles are immune to certain toxins found in sponges.

✨ Each sea turtle has a unique pattern of scales on its face and shell - just like human fingerprints!

⚠️ All sea turtles are currently on the IUCN Red List of threatened species.

As dive specialists, we're rather fond of our oceans! Today, we're celebrating the beautiful shades of blue that make up our underwater world. From the nutrient-rich waters of the Maldives to the striking azure of the Azores and cobalt blue of the Red Sea, all the way to the turquoise waters of the Philippines - each hue is home to an incredible array of marine life that we love diving with!

Happy World Coral Reef Day! 🌊💙

Coral reefs are truly amazing, and today we want to celebrate the beautiful corals that make them so special! Do you recognise this vibrant collection of soft corals? We’d love to hear your guesses in the comments below!

Once you've taken a shot at it, check out the answers:
1. Octopus coral (Galaxea astreata)
2. Often called a carnation or tree coral (specifically from the genus Dendronephthya)
3. A magnificent sea anemone, (Heteractis magnifica). It is also referred to as the ritteri anemone
4. A type of tunicate also known as ascidians
5. Leather corals (genus Sarcophyton), also known as toadstool corals
6. Hammer coral (Fimbriaphyllia ancora) also known as anchor coral

“The logistics before and during the holiday were good. The crew and dive guides were always efficient, cheerful and helpful with good attention to my dietary requirements, which was VERY welcome. Richard A recently returned from Thailand where he spent four nights on the Marco Polo liveaboard to the Similan and Surin Islands. He also spent some time chilling out at both Palm Garden Resorts in Khao Lak and Phuket:

“The boat Marco Polo was very good. Excellent food, great dive guides etc. Nice to be on a smaller liveaboard for a change. One dive guide per four divers made for relaxed diving. Both Palm Garden Resorts were comfortable and the staff in both were charming and very helpful.”
