Our top tip from this weekend’s coaching event: work on your weaker side.

Most bodyboarders have a direction they naturally prefer….. left or right, frontside or backside.

But the side that feels awkward probably doesn’t look as bad as you think.

That was one of the big takeaways from this weekend. Getting filmed riding your less natural direction can be a real eye-opener. Watch it back, look at your line, body position and timing, and you’ll usually spot plenty to build on.

It might feel uncomfortable at first, but learning to ride both ways opens up so many more waves, especially when you travel and the best waves aren’t always breaking in your favourite direction.

Go left. Go right. Get filmed. Watch it back.

That’s how you unlock a whole new side of your bodyboarding.

It might not have been the brightest start to summer, but we still had an epic weekend at our Bodyboard Coaching Weekend, sponsored by Boog Wax.

Guests joined us from all over the UK to fine tune their bodyboarding with the Bodyboard Holidays team, with a fun right-hand wedge on Saturday and some playful lefts on Sunday keeping everyone busy.

Our Portugal trip last month reminded us why we love Lagos so much. 🇵🇹

Most people join us for the bodyboarding, but there’s so much more to the week than just the waves.

Between sessions, Lagos is a brilliant place to explore…. from wandering the old town and checking out the Ponta da Piedade cliffs, to boat trips, dolphins, great food and those golden Portugal sunsets.

In this short, Mave shares five of his favourite things to do in Lagos when he’s not in the water.

It’s easy to see why Portugal has become one of our most popular trips, and why so many guests keep coming back year after year.

Three bits of litter. One simple habit. A bigger impact than you might think.

Our latest blog is live, and it all started with a moment in El Salvador after one of our Bodyboard Holidays sunset sessions.

A local noticed one of our team picking up litter after every surf, walked over, shook his hand, and thanked him.

That moment stuck.

Because sometimes the smallest actions are the ones people notice. They start conversations. They shift behaviour. They remind us that looking after the places we love doesn’t need to be complicated.

In the blog, we look at the plastic problem, the science behind beach cleans, and why we now take a bin bag to the beach for every single Bodyboard Holidays session.

No big statement. No fuss. Just a simple habit that can make a difference.

Check out the full blog post here - https://bodyboard-holidays.com/blog/three-for-the-sea-beach-clean/

And next time you leave the beach, take three for the sea.

Having lived in Portugal for nearly two decades, and with an unhealthy addiction to bodyboarding, there are not many spots along this coastline that our Portugal trip leader Matt “Mave” Davies has not found.

He knows exactly where to be and when, and these waves are a pretty good example of that.

If you like the idea of scoring some of Europe’s best waves while improving your bodyboarding at the same time, head to bodyboard-holidays.com to find out more and get booked onto one of next year’s trips.

Two huge wave pool dates for the diary. 👀

It’s only a matter of weeks until we head to Lost Shore, Edinburgh with Jeff and Dave Hubbard for what’s shaping up to be one of the biggest bodyboarding events of the year.

Iain Campbell has been up there recently, and his first impression says it all — the pool is bigger, the rides are longer, the settings are seriously fun, and the whole place looks perfect for a proper bodyboarding day.

Long rides, barrel settings, multiple sections, and Jeff and Dave Hubbard in the water… it’s going to be unreal to watch.

Then on 19 September, we’re heading back to The Wave, Bristol for our coaching day with 2017 World Champion Iain Campbell.

Two wave pools. Three world champions. Two chances to ride, learn, progress and be part of something special.

Lost Shore with Jeff & Dave Hubbard — 4 July
The Wave with Iain Campbell — 19 September

Final spaces are available now…. head to bodyboard-holidays.com to join us.
