Sleddale is a small and entirely enclosed valley in the far-flung reaches of the North York Moors, comprising a solitary farmhouse. “The vagaries of the weather, the bleakness of the moorland, the tardy charity of the soil and the isolation of many hill farms breed a combination of stern human qualities rarely found outside the covers of serious fiction”, according to an anonymous description penned in 1949.

Tripsdale is a wild and remote side valley of Bilsdale. Shakeholes, plunge pools and soaring banks of bracken make its navigation especially hazardous.
Fittingly, its name is thought to derive from the Old English 'threpel' - a gruesome wooden torture instrument upon which the body of a convicted man was fixed, prior to ex*****on.

Are you set up to text 999 in an emergency?
It's a simple process and well worth doing - imagine trying to call 999 Police to get MR if you're stuck in a storm and can't hear anything or there's hardly any signal.
There's a link on our website (see graphic for link) but here are the steps. Please to sort this now as you MUST REGISTER YOUR MOBILE NUMBER before you can use it.
1. Register your mobile - Text the word 'register' to 999.
You'll need to register again if you change your mobile number.
2. Read the message - You’ll get an automatic text reply. Please read it all.
3. Reply to the message - Read the message and then reply by texting ‘yes’.
4. Get a 'success' text - You'll then get a text telling you that your mobile is now registered - or if there's been a problem …
If you're not sure and need to check if you're registered - Text 'register' to 999 and you'll get a message telling you if it's registered or not. Don't text anything else - there's no need to make a test call.
