Calling all cyclists who like climbing! The distances on our Costa Blanca Coast & Climbs and Lakeland Passes tours aren't huge. But they pack in the most ascent per mile, making them arguably two of our hardest Grade 5 holidays. But also perhaps the most fun! See:

Our 2026 season of UK and European cycling holidays is over, the clocks have changed, and we simply can't wait to get back out there with more tours in 2027! The Pedal Nation team have been keeping their spirits up by reworking some of our routes (aka dreaming of cycling). This week, we've been looking at our Road to Berlin tour. The main challenge? Narrowing down the tour highlights in a tour packed with things to see in addition to some top cycling.

The obvious truth? We failed!

*Road to Berlin tour highlights*

**Delft and Gouda:** Explore beautiful historic Dutch towns, famous respectively for their blue-and-white pottery and cheese, with canals, market squares and medieval architecture.

**The Veluwe:** Ride through the Netherlands' surprising landscapes of pine forest, open heathland and sandy tracks.

**Amersfoort and Deventer:** Discover medieval streets, impressive city gates and the historic heart of two handsome Dutch towns.

**The German countryside:** Enjoy the wooded estates and patchwork landscapes of Twente, the rolling hills of the Osnabrücker Land and the peaceful waterways of the Elbe and Havel.

**Osnabrück:** Visit the historic Peace Hall, where the Peace of Westphalia was negotiated in 1648.

**Schöningen and Hötensleben:** Discover some of the world's oldest known wooden hunting weapons and the remarkably preserved remains of the former East–West border.

**Magdeburg:** Explore the magnificent Gothic cathedral and the wonderfully eccentric Hundertwasser-designed Green Citadel.

**Potsdam:** Take in the palaces and gardens of the former Prussian royal residence, including the UNESCO-listed Sanssouci.

**Berlin:** Cross the Glienicke Bridge, explore the history of the divided city and finish beneath the iconic Brandenburg Gate.

Meet the Guides!

Alex guided for Pedal Nation on our recent Spain End to End holiday. His highhlight was the last day of riding from Ronda to Estepona, ending the tour with a *bang*!

"Rolling out from the historic city of Ronda, we headed into the mountains where we were met by spectacular views and hillsides dotted with goats. The smooth tarmac threaded through carved tunnels and we soon found ourselves on the route that was concurrently being used for the Costa del Sol Gran Fondo. Local supporters lined the road and cheered on the Pedal Nation group, shouting "Vamos!", which was welcome encouragement as we climbed 800m from Jubrique to Puerto de Peñas Blancas. As we climbed, the heavens opened, cooling us down. As we climbed further, we found ourselves cycling inside the rain cloud, which was a first for many of us. We then gingerly descended into Estepona, being mindful of the limited visibility and slippery tarmac. Reaching the seafront in Estepona fittingly marked the end of an incredible tour from the North to the South of Spain."

As our 2026 holidays draw to a close, we've been asking our guides to share some of their highlights from the past year. First up Jo, on her first tour as a guide with us, on Hadrian's Way / the Coast to Coast across the North of England and back:

"A day of highs and lows (literally) as the route wound up and down from Whitehaven to Keswick - thick clouds and heavy rain, breaks of warm sunshine, quiet roads leading us through beautiful wooded valleys and bleak uplands, wildness yet with remote and welcoming community cafes just when we really needed them.

On, on and up over the Whinlatter Pass and that wonderful downhill, rain slapping our faces as the view opened up to the magnificent mountains beyond.

I paused, smiled and savoured the moment."

It’s World Food Day. One of the joys of cycling through different countries is discovering local food and the people behind it. We certainly think that a place’s food culture is part of what makes it worth travelling through in the first place.

This bowl of momos soup was cooked for us by our homestay host in the Nubra Valley on this year’s High Places of Ladakh tour.

World Food Day is also a reminder that good, nutritious food isn’t something everyone can take for granted, and that for many of the communities we travel through, food is also a livelihood.

On our tours we eat at local restaurants in the evenings, and our guides are asked to source local food for lunches and snacks wherever possible. It’s one small way we can help make sure our holidays benefit the places and people who make them special.
