Caldbeck Village Stores is our local shop in the village. It's a brilliant shop and their produce is first class! Pow Head Farm Meats is a local producer just up the road and their meat really is first class!

It's just one of the many local food producers support by our village shop.

You can get pretty much everything you might need during your stay in the Caldbeck area.

Its just a 10 minute walk from the Ellwood House so really convenient too.

Our local pub, The Oddfellows Arms Caldbeck is a finalist in the Cumbria Life Awards 2025. Finger crossed for James, Emma and the whole team.

The "Oddies" is a short walk down the road from Ellwood House and it's a great Lakeland pub doing good food and decent beer.

We're so very lucky that we have a number of excellent local pubs / good places to eat in the Northern Fells and surrounding areas. Makes a stay at our holiday cottage in Caldbeck, an even better experience.

Let's hope we have some good news to report for the Oddfellows in the near future.

Might seem strange to be posting icy cold images of Skiddaw when we have been having scorching heat in July?? But we’d like to show how fantastic the
Winter is in the Northern Fells.

This ascent of Skiddaw was via Bakestall and Dash Falls and it is simply brilliant. Imagine that ice right now 😂😂. The views are amazing at any time of year!!

But it goes to show that the Lake District in winter is every bit as good as the summer - just a bit different! And a lot quieter.

Autumn is a fantastic time of year in the Lake District. It’s quieter, the pubs and restaurants are less full but the fell walking is as good as ever - just without the crowds.

Here’s some pics from November last year at Crummock Water and Fleetwith Pike nr Honister Pass. We finished the day with pint of Old P which was simply delightful and well earned

We've got some fabulous dining options around Caldbeck. The Oak, Curthwaite being one of them and a particular favourite!

Only 6 miles up the road from Caldbeck so it's a short drive and well worth it. The food here is outstanding!! Just look at those images....mmmmm!!

If wild swimming is your thing and you think you are hard enough 😂, then Langstrath Valley in Borrowdale is the place to visit in the North Lakes. Crystal clear water cascades down the valley, with numerous places for a dip - when the temperatures allow.

Even in Springtime, it’s a lovely easy walk up to the bottom of Stake Pass.

The North Lakes has some stunning fell walking to be had. And within easy reach of Caldbeck.

This one is Clough Head and Calfhow Pike near Threlkeld. What a stunning mountain vista! Well worth the effort.

A hidden gem in the North Lakes and well worth a visit when in the Northern Fells. Bassenthwaite Lake Station.

It's a café and special visitor attraction surrounded by nature in the heart of the North Lakes. Opposite Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve.

The Northern Fells are a wonderful part of the Lake District for walking. Quieter than many of the well known parts of the National Park. Fantastic fells to climb and wonderful views to behold. Traditional Lakeland Pubs to enjoy in the evening after the walks too.
