The Duffield Solstice Summerfest Train is Back! 🚂🎶

We’re delighted to announce that the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway has partnered with the organisers of the Duffield Solstice Summerfest to provide a special park-and-ride train service for this incredible weekend of live music and entertainment.

Taking place on 20th and 21st June, Summerfest 2026 features an outstanding line-up including Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, Roachford, The Limelight Orchestra performing Pure Ibiza Classical, plus a host of talented performers, DJs and live acts across the weekend.

Why sit in traffic or worry about parking when you can travel in style aboard a heritage train?

Departing from Wirksworth, our special Summerfest service will take you directly to Duffield, where the event is just a short walk away. Better still, there will be a fully licensed bar on board, allowing you to start the celebrations before you even arrive.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this weekend aboard our Countryman Dining Train!

Sunday’s Countryman service was a fantastic success, with guests enjoying a delicious roast beef dinner whilst taking in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside from our heritage train.

It’s always a pleasure to see so many people choosing to make their weekend that little bit more special with great food, wonderful scenery, and a unique railway experience. Thank you to everyone who travelled with us, and to our dedicated volunteers and catering team who helped make the day such a success.

Behind every steam-hauled journey is a carefully choreographed sequence of moves.

Watch as The Duke rolls back into position before one of our engineering team switches the points, allowing the locomotive to run around the train and couple up at the front ready for the afternoon service.

It’s one of those fascinating railway operations that passengers don’t always get to see, but it’s an essential part of keeping our trains running throughout the day.

At the far end of our Wirksworth station car park, we have an elevated children’s play area with fantastic views overlooking the workshop.

It’s the perfect place for young railway enthusiasts to let off some steam while watching the engineers and volunteers at work behind the scenes, helping to keep our trains running.

What a fantastic weekend at Modelling Madness!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, explored the layouts, chatted with exhibitors, rode our trains, both large and small, and helped make the event such a success. It was wonderful to see so many visitors enjoying the incredible craftsmanship, attention to detail and passion that was on display throughout the weekend.

A special thank you must also go to our incredible volunteers, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes and on the front line throughout the event. From preparing displays and operating trains to welcoming visitors and keeping everything running smoothly, events like this simply wouldn’t be possible without their dedication and hard work.

Now that Modelling Madness has drawn to a close, we’re already looking ahead to our next major event – Back to the 1940s on 13th and 14th June. Join us for a weekend of vintage vehicles, period displays, live entertainment, historic train travel and plenty of wartime nostalgia as we step back in time once again.

The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Miniature Railway is back in steam this weekend!

For the first time this year, our popular miniature railway will be running in its brand-new location at Wirksworth Station.

The move has been made ahead of exciting plans to expand Platform 1, helping us improve facilities for visitors while ensuring the miniature railway remains a fantastic attraction for families and enthusiasts alike.

If you’re visiting us this weekend, be sure to take a ride and see the new layout for yourself. It’s a great addition to your day out alongside our heritage trains, station facilities and attractions.

Don't forget today we have a massive range of model railways on show both at the station in the Model Railway Carriage in the furthest most car park, but at the Wirksworth Maltings!

All of this on top of our full steam time table and miniature railway at the end of Platform 1.
