Ever wondered why one of Rokkosan’s most popular trails is named after "spilled oil"? 🍶🧗‍♂️

In our latest Mountain Report, we are diving into the history of the Aburakobushi (油コブシ) trail!

Back in the day, local merchants had to carry heavy wooden tubs of Nada rapeseed oil over the rugged mountain to Arima Onsen. The trail was so steep and rocky that exhausted traders constantly tripped—spilling their precious cargo and earning the slope the nickname "Abura-koboshi" (Oil-Spilling Slope)!

Today, it's a fantastic, scenic hike that takes you directly to the Cable Sanjo Station. Read our full guide to learn about:

Did you know Rokkosan used to be a massive "Ice Factory"? ❄️🏔️

Long before electric refrigerators, the mountain was home to a thriving natural ice trade! 🧳 Laborers would cut heavy blocks of ice from mountain ponds and rush them down the trails on wooden carts in the middle of the night to supply the port city of Kobe. 🌙🏃‍♂️
These frozen ponds also became Kobe's original natural ice-skating rinks in the early 20th century! ⛸️✨
✨ In our latest Mountain Report, we dive into:
🗺️ The history of the Ice Road hiking trail that you can still walk today.
🧊 How the Rokko-Shidare Observatory still harvests and uses winter ice to naturally cool visitors in the summer!
Grab your boots and take a walk through frozen history! 🥾👇
