In the post about the Irises of the Nezu Museum, I have mentioned that I love Wisteria!
So here, as the last picture of Story Time in April, you can find a beautiful Wisteria at a random street in Tokyo.
I was so happy when I found it because people who do have gardens, seldom let their plants grow to the outside, fearing they will cause nuisance. But how could this Wisteria be a nuisance? It is so beautiful!

That's it.. see you in May!

Story Time April
April is a time where garden maintenance works start up again. Thus, I am mainly staying in Tokyo at this time of year. But don't worry! Tokyo has very many nice gardens and parks with many flower highlights!

When visiting old Japanese places, make sure to be quiet and don't touch the interior or step over fences! I have already seen places taking stricter measures because visitors behaved rude!
Also, don't step inside flower displays. If this happens in masses, the places will close!

We already saw the Shiofune Kannonji in a previous post where I mentioned the Nezu Shrine.
Well, here it is! When you visit on a rainy day, you may have the azaleas almost to yourself. But on sunny days, it is quite crowded as one of the famous places to visit in Tokyo to see these beautiful flowers.

Btw, there is a video on our Youtube of Shiofune Kannonji!

余白の美 - よはくのび - yohaku no bi - beauty of empty space

Let me quote the website of the Seattle Japanese Garden for this one:
The beauty of the extra white, the space left empty, is called yohaku no bi in Japanese. This is a concept borrowed from Chinese landscape ink wash paintings, where clouds, mist, sky, and water could be left unpainted. [...]
Zen artists in particular appreciated the dynamic vitality created by empty areas. They saw in them a signifier of the Buddhist notion of emptiness as the ultimate reality. In this context emptiness doesn’t signify lack or something negative. Instead, it can be understood as an energetic field of infinite potentiality.

End of April is the time where you can enjoy the famous irises of the Nezu Museum of Art. When the irises are in bloom, you can see the golden folding screen exhibited in the museum. I have to admit though, I like the exhibit of the Wisteria more.. Maybe because I was always stunned by the beauty of Wisterias. There is also one in the garden of the Museum.

Back to the inner city of Tokyo!
This is the Okuma Garden next to the Waseda University. It is a retreat for the students there who use the garden to relax between classes.
I would have loved to have such a garden right next to my campus.. But.. now that I think of it, I had! Just never used Planten un Blomen because I would have needed to cross two streets and cross a train station.. Lazy students..😂
But choose my gardeners training place wisely then and had the whole Botanical Garden of Hamburg as a relaxing place in my breaks!
