Bayon is a historical temple located in the center of Angkor Thom, the ancient capital of the Khmer Empire. It was built in the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, during the New Buddhist Republic.

Key Facts about Bayon:

Location: In the heart of Angkor Thom, Siem Reap

Date of construction: 12th–13th century

King: Jayavarman VII

Religion: Dhammayana Buddhism (but later changed to Brahmanism, not forgetting that it incorporated many religions into its architecture)

Features: The temple has 54 human-shaped towers and 216 faces (4 faces per tower)

About the 54 faces:

Bayon has 54 towers, representing the 54 provinces or cities of the Khmer Empire at that time

On each tower, there are 4 sculpted faces facing the four directions

These faces are the faces of "Avalokitesvara" or Jayavarman VII due to their resemblance and physical attributes to the Buddhist deity

The faces have the following meanings:

Representing calm, righteousness, and peace

A symbol of justice and public attention

Bayon is a temple that demonstrates the splendor of Khmer architecture in the late Angkor period.

Floating Village: Kampong Phluk is a traditional fishing village on the Tonle Sap Lake in Cambodia, famous for its stilted houses that rise 6 to 9 meters above the ground. During the rainy season, the village appears to float as the lake's water level rises, submerging the stilts and allowing boats to navigate between the houses. The community thrives on fishing and aquaculture, with daily life revolving around the water. Visitors can see floating schools, markets, and pagodas, offering a glimpse into the unique way of life adapted to the lake's seasonal changes.

Mangrove Forest: Surrounding Kampong Phluk is a dense mangrove forest, which plays a vital ecological role in protecting the village and nurturing diverse wildlife. The mangroves create a serene, green canopy over narrow waterways, ideal for tranquil boat tours.
