Did you know? Western Mongolia is home to the mighty grizzly brown bear!

You might spot one wandering around the wild corners of Altai Tavan Bogd – especially near Base Camp, in the Tsagaan Us Valley, and occasionally around Khoton & Khurgan Lakes or the Dayan Lake region.

Recently, our Kazakh Tour crew and clients had a lucky sighting near Black Lake in Altai soum. What a moment!

A few fun facts:

These bears are shy and avoid people. So don’t worry – you won’t end up as their lunch!

They prefer berries, roots, fish, and marmots – much tastier than tourists.

If you spot one, count yourself blessed – it’s a rare and unforgettable sight in Mongolia’s wilderness.

So, while you’re out exploring the remote Altai mountains, keep your eyes open… you never know when a grizzly might cross your path (from a safe distance 😉).

We had the honor of celebrating LV University Professor Nath’s birthday in the most remote western corner of Mongolia — far from any signs of civilization, right at our temporary 5-star tent camp.

Our crew went all out, beautifully decorating the dining tent to set the perfect festive mood. Our amazing chef Bota ( Alemka) created an incredible cake, and we enjoyed an unforgettable birthday party under the wide open Mongolian skies.
