Along the shores of Pelican Point, black-backed jackals are part of an ecosystem where very little goes unused.

They are opportunistic scavengers, feeding on available food sources — including the remains left behind within the seal colony.

It may not be the picture-perfect side of Pelican Point, but it is nature doing what nature does: reusing, recycling and sustaining life.

We didn’t get the perfectly edited shots. The pelicans didn’t pose. And somehow, every time the seals came right up to the kayaks, we missed the photo. But our guests said it was the most incredible day.
