Why is Nepal a must-visit site for Buddhists?

Nepal is one of the must-visit places to understand Buddhism and to experience the living Buddhist heritage. The place was sacred and hidden from intruders until the present day, making it a haven for Buddhist practices. From the Shakya Muni Buddha to Padmashambhava and recent Tibetan masters, Nepal is considered a premier destination for Buddhists practitioners. The country is home to numerous sacred sites, including Lumbini, which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, commemorating the Buddha's life. Additionally, it was a place of enlightenment for Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) and many renowned Tibetan Buddhist masters after him, like Atisha, Milarepa, Tilopa, and Naropa, who visited Kathmandu following his footsteps. The presence of various monasteries and the opportunity to engage with practicing monks further enrich the pilgrimage experience, making Nepal an essential location for those seeking to deepen their understanding of Buddhism.

Ayurveda has evolved from an ancient traditional Indian science into a globally recognized system of integrative and preventive healthcare.
The Ayurvedic body differs significantly from that of European biomedicine, which is based on dissection. The Ayurvedic body is a body of systems. It is conceptualized as comprising five constituent parts (mahābūta), seven body substances (dhātu), and three regulating qualities (doṣa). According to Ayurvedic theory, by attending to imbalances between these principles in the body, health might be promoted and illness avoided. The Ayurvedic concepts of the doṣas – vata, pitta and kapha can be seen in the West today, promoting teas, soaps and massages.

Vastu Shastra- the Vedic architecture to live in harmony with nature!
The old town of Kathmandu highly incorporated Vastu Shastra to design the whole city. Vastu Shastra is the ancient Indian architectural system that designs spaces to align with natural laws and environmental forces like sunlight, wind, gravity, and the earth's magnetic fields. Far from pure superstition, it acts as an early, intuitive proto-science for sustainable, climate-sensitive habitat design. The town systematizes architectural creation as a design activity placed in space, time, and force fields of heavenly bodies and aiming to provide a living environment for health, peace, and oneness with the spirit of the universe.

Kathmandu, a must-visit Buddhist Pilgrimage!
Hidden in the citadel of the Himalayan mountains, the Kathmandu valley sheltered Buddhism from the invasion and arson that its neighbors were going through. In the crossroad of the trans-Himalayan trade route, Kathmandu was a hub of learning, preaching and retreat. This is where Nagarjuna (the founder of the Madhyamaka (Middle Way) school and the foremost systematizer of the Mahāyāna doctrine of śūnyatā (emptiness) spent his retired life, and Guru Rinpoche (Padmashambhava) got enlightened. After him, many Buddhist masters like Atisha, Tilopa, Naropa, and Milarepa later came on retreat and pilgrimage.
