You hear stories about the wonders of the wild, but nothing prepares you for a wildlife standoff quite like this.

While out on a game drive, our Congema Safaris guests witnessed an unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime moment: a young lion had scampered up a low-hanging tree trunk to escape... a massive African elephant standing right at the base!

With the elephant casually guarding the trunk and another lioness pacing nearby, the poor cub was caught between a rock and a hard place high up in the branches! You could hear the stunned whispers and chuckles inside our Land Cruiser as everyone watched this epic clash of two heavyweights of the African savanna unfold just feet away.

You come to Tanzania expecting to see lions resting under shade trees, but nothing prepares you for looking up into the branches and finding a curious cub staring right back down at you!

While the rest of the pride enjoyed a well-deserved afternoon siesta in the shade beside our Land Cruiser, this adventurous young cub decided to climb high above the ground for the ultimate bird’s-eye view of the Serengeti.

With the open pop-top roof open, our guests had front-row seats to watch this little king perched gracefully in the tree crotch, scanning the savanna like a true ruler in training. Moments like these—unscripted, playful, and incredibly intimate—are what make every game drive with Congema Safaris pure magic.
