Get know the Ol Doinyo Lengai, "Mountain of God" in the Maasai language, ......... ... ... .. is an active volcano located in the Gregory Rift, south of Lake Natron within the Arusha Region of Tanzania............. itinerary......................
DAY 1 – ARUSHA – LAKE NATRON AREA
Pick up in the morning from your hotel at (0830am) and depart for Lake Natron on the great rift valley – Mt L'engai base. Arrive in the afternoon. Short tour of Lake Natron on foot. Lake Natron is one of the major flamingo breeding areas. Evening free at the camp (kamakia campsite) or visit the nearby waterfalls for a swim in the river and also visit a Maasai family for a short cultural interaction.
Around 1130pm. Transfer to the base of Mt. L’engai.
DAY 2 – CLIMB MT OL’DOINYO L’ENGAI - 2896m – ARUSHA
Short after mid night, jeep transfer to the base of Mt Ol’ Doinyo L’Engai for the climb to peak of this live volcano. The climb takes about 3 TO 5 hours on a normal pace. The climb is strenuous and requires a physically fit person. Arrive at the Peak just before sunrise.
- L'engai volcanic crater looks like a field infested with red firelight insects just before sunrise. An amazing site to visit. Tour of the active crater after sunrise, then retracing your steps down to the base and transfer to the camp. L’engai climb is described as of medium difficulty and requires a physically fit person, no technical equipment required. After brunch and short rest, depart for Arusha arriving in the evening.
Dinner and overnight; Hotel of your choice ....in Arusha town!!!!!!
