Greetings from the Elbrus region! The new 7 Summits Club group, "Sychi," began their acclimatization on the slopes of Mount Cheget. We had a wonderful ascent. The 7 Summits Club guide Olya Rumyantseva sends a message from Tibet:

Greetings to everyone from Tibet! From an increasingly enlightened, yet somewhat travel-weary group. This morning we woke up in Shigatse and first headed to Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama. It's a veritable city of temples and tiny streets where you can get lost and wander until you embrace Buddhism and resign yourself to your fate.
The monastery is famous for its frescoes and its gigantic (26-meter) golden Buddha statue, which took almost 300 kg of gold to create.
That was the end of our excursion for now. We boarded a bus and went to the city of Saga. The drive was very long and a bit agonizing. But beautiful landscapes flashed by outside the window, and our cultural guide, Anna, spent the entire day telling us the history of Tibet. So we passed the time quite well.

Greetings from the Elbrus slopes from the "MAN" super team! Today, our small but confident team, on the third day of acclimatization, climbed Pastukhov Rocks (4,600m). The weather was fine; the wind was not strong, though cold. The weather was very similar to what's typical for early May. Now, after two weeks of bad weather, we were able to admire the magnificent views.

Alexey Samoylenko on why he abandoned the idea of doing a handstand on Everest
http://7summitsclub.com/news/all/item_20084/

Aleksey Samoylenko, a member of the 7 Summits Club expedition to Everest, had planned to do a handstand at the summit, thereby setting a world record. But after reaching the summit, he decided against it. Rustam Nabiyev, who also could have done a summit handstand but didn't, supported Alexey.

Alexey Samoylenko:
Stepping over the dead climbers on the Hillary Steps, I realized something interesting. These guys, who remain lying there forever, are no worse than me. They are just as outstanding athletes, just as motivated and ambitious, they also earned a lot of money, but somehow their fate is like this... They remain there, a quiet reminder of the strength, courage, and deep passion required to pursue the highest dreams.

There are places where doing something would definitely be inappropriate, and Rustam and I made a choice we don't regret at all. Even though, objectively, Everest's summit is level, and doing a handstand there was entirely possible.

Let there remain a place on this earth where handstands are prohibited, and let it remain the sacred summit of Mount Everest.

Greetings from the slopes of Elbrus! After ten days of bad weather, we finally got a panoramic view of the Main Caucasus Range and our goal, Mount Elbrus. Today, three 7 Summits Club groups, led by guides Alexander Dorozhukov, Dmitry Semenov, and Evgeny Fedyunin, moved to the high-mountain hut on the slopes of Elbrus. Independently, the participants and guides ascended to the area of the Refuge of Eleven, at an altitude of 4,070 meters. There, they held training sessions, practicing techniques for moving on a snowy slope and self-arresting with an ice axe. Tomorrow, we'll be heading to Pastukhov Rocks.

A new 7 Summits Club group climbed the slopes of Cheget to the "Ai" café with guide Dmitry Semenov
http://7summitsclub.com/news/all/item_20071/

The 7 Summits Club Guide Dmitry Semenov reports from the Elbrus region:
Greetings from the mountainous and not-so-sunny Elbrus region! Today, our new super-team "MAN" ascended the slopes of Mount Cheget to the famous, cozy, and welcoming Ai Café (2,750m) on their first acclimatization hike. A quick recap of the weather on June 1st: snow, wind, and temperatures around freezing. It's hard to remember a better start to summer. Despite the weather, our team climbed at a good pace to our intended destination. You can warm up in the cozy café and, as always, drink delicious tea and try chebureki with lingonberries. After lunch, we went to the rental shop and are now ready for tomorrow.
