[🚨NEARFALL UPDATE/FINAL SUMMER REPORT]
-
With this run of weather, we finally have a chance to catch up and report on our last week of summer fishing and what to look forward to for the fall.
-
Prior to these easterly conditions, we were out every fishable day with the Nearfall primarily targeting fluke and the Nearfall II targeting the mixed pelagic species.
-
The bonito/albacore trips were consistently good with most trips catching as many as you wanted. Couple trips saw more albies than bones but the action was always there on jigs and baits. On all of these trips there have been a chance at small Bluefin and on our most recent trip, we boated a couple to 37 inches. In addition to the pelagics, we saw a big mass of porgies move in and made a couple drops for those as well. Great sign for our fall season and hopefully they make a move inshore following this stretch of weather.
-
Overall the fluke fishing was pretty sluggish and grinded out catches of 10-15 keepers a trip with a ton of effort and exploring other areas. On most days, we bounced around a lot and were able to pick 1 or 2 solid fish off a piece but had plenty of spots that fell flat. On what seems to have been our last Fluke trip of the season last Friday (9/18), we had by far the best action we had seen compared to the prior week or two. We bagged an early boat limit (8man) with everyone catching a limit plus to about 5 #. A perfect way to end a great summer of fishing. Unfortunately, the run of conditions we have currently will take us past the season closure for fluke. Thankyou to all who joined us and followed us along.
-
Moving forward we will target mixed bags until the Striped Bass show up. ‼️Seabass Season Re-Opens tomorrow‼️The porgies are here and the Blues/Albacore and Bonito will be moving around. Theres a lot of potential for great, action packed trips. We also have the crabs for those that want to get in some training for the winter blackfish Season. The Nearfall II is also geared up and ready for the fall Canyon season for tuna and tile fish.
