I’m home—and I’m the good kind of tired. The kind that comes from squeezing every possible experience, question, and comparison into three very full days and four nights.

Today is where the real comparison work begins.

I’m moving from Cancún to the Riviera Maya, with stops at Meliá Casa Maya, Paradisus Playa del Carmen and ultimately checking in to the five-star adults-only Paradisus La Perla.

They may share a hotel family, but they aren’t designed for the same traveler—and that distinction matters far more than choosing whichever property happens to have the prettiest photos or lowest rate.

I’ll be comparing the atmosphere, accommodations, dining, pools and overall experience to identify the best fit for families, couples, friends and adults seeking a quieter escape or a fun atmosphere.

First stop: Paradisus Cancún

This iconic pyramid-shaped resort has recently been reimagined, and I’m spending the next two days experiencing it as both a guest and a travel advisor.

Beyond the beautiful first impression, I’ll be looking at the questions that really matter: Who will feel most at home here? Is The Reserve upgrade worthwhile? How do the rooms, dining and service compare with other luxury all-inclusives in Cancún?
