Lisbon, Portugal has much to offer tourists. Lou's favorite monument is the Monument of Discovery. The huge carved monument is a tribute to the navigators lead by Henry the Navigator. These explorations included South Africa coast, Brizal and the path to India which created trade and financial growth for Portugal.
The Old Town of Lisbon is fun and interesting with little narrow cobble stone streets with many tourist shops and great little café’s and restaurants to enjoy the local cuisine. Lou likes the Tuk Tuk little carts for the best way to visit this area.

Just a short distance from Lisbon is the Palace of Quezue. This is a step back in time to the elegant 1700’s fashionable palaces. The design is fashioned after Palace of Versailles. The gardens are beautiful the gold chandeliers and ornate mirrors in the palace are so remarkable.

Viking cruise included a very nice long day in Lisbon. Our all aboard time was 9pm.

Discover Sitka! One of Regent Seven Seas Explorer's cruise port stops.
Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the snow-capped peaks of the Tongass National Forest. You'll hear the cry of bald eagles overhead, see fishing boats bobbing in the harbor and experience a quaint little town deeply tied the indigenous Tlingit people and to Russian Colonization.

We chose a 5 hour excursion that first took us whale watching where we spotted humpback whales surfacing against a backdrop of misty mountains...breathtaking! Then we were dropped of at the edge of town and got on a charter bus which took us to Caldwell Woods Bear Sanctuary where we learned about the incredible work that they are doing to rescue and protect orphaned bear cubs that can't be released into the wild. Lastly we visited the Alaska Raptor Center where they rehabilitate injured birds of prey. We were able to get up close with rescued eagles, owls, and other birds amazing birds!

Taking the Alaska Railroad's Glacier Discovery train from Anchorage is an awesome way to get to the cruise dock in Whittier! You will enjoy every minute of the 2 1/2 hour trip...sit back and relax with a cup of coffee and a snack from the Wilderness Café and enjoy breathtaking views out of the large windows.
