To celebrate National Cheese Day today, I am fondly remembering my visit to the charming town of Gouda, Netherlands (where the locals pronounce it “HOWdah”) back in 2019 on my Tulip Time for Beer Enthusiasts river cruise on Avalon. Some places stop you in your tracks the moment you arrive. Not because of their beauty, but because of the sheer weight of what happened there. Walking the endless rows of white crosses at the American Cemetery, and later standing on Omaha Beach with the wind off the Channel pulling at my jacket, I felt something I still struggle to put into words. Add in a quaint square in nearby Sainte-Mère-Église where a paratrooper once dangled from a church steeple, and you have a day in Normandy that will quietly rearrange something inside you.

Today’s Indy 500 race brings back wonderful memories of touring the Indianapolis Motor Speedway a couple of years ago! Although I am not a fan and have virtually no knowledge of anything racing-related, it was still a fantastic place to visit. I highly recommend it the next time you find yourself in Indianapolis! 🏁🏎️
