Hawaii Lifeguard Surf Instructors (HLSI) is the only Native Hawaiian surf school on the Big Island, serving Kailua-Kona since 1998 at Kahalu'u Bay. As a family-owned and operated business, we offer 100% exclusive private classes for surfers of all skill levels. HLSI surf students learn to ride the waves and gain a deeper appreciation for Hawaiian culture and the importance of protecting the island

*Certified Instructors: Professional Hawaiian lifeguards and watermen certified by the American Red Cross.

Our Story

Join our surfing ohana (family) of Lifeguards out on the Kona style waves. We provide Surf School Classes every Monday-Saturday and start at just 3 years old. We take pride in being a family owned and operated Hawaiian Surf School since 1990's. We are fortunate to work with the Make A Wish Foundation year round and Surf For Special Needs- Follow Our Arrow (S4SN) here on our Hawaii Island to provide therapeutic surfing and paddling experience for people with disabilities- provided 4 times per calendar year- 100% Free Community Events.
