Today I had a family visiting from Georgia. They wanted to experience a ridge hike in Hawaii. Well, they did, and as a bonus they experienced one of the muddier days up on the ridges, but with some beautiful, vibrant views of the Ko’olaus.

After 4 years, back on Mauna Loa 🌋
It was great to return to the summit of the largest active volcano in the world. As dramatic it sounds, as calm it was the way we climbed it. Beautiful, desolate landscape woth noone around. The trail climbs through a lot of pāhoehoe and a’a lava fields, slowly ascending to the summit. A beautiful place to experience.

We were at our regular Thursday run with the Volcano Run Team, and while running Kilauea 🌋 erupted.

Running at high elevation in Hawaii. Sounds like what??? But it is true. Hawaii has some big volcanoes reaching almost 14,000 feet. Perfect training ground for trail running🤙🏻
By the way, do you see that smoke in the background? That was Kilauea 🌋erupting while we were up there.
