KEY WEST LOCAL FILM: Writers on Bicycles

"Writers on Bicycles" is an enchanting one-hour film that explores Key West through the eyes of its writers, both past and present.

It offers a unique glimpse into American literature by showcasing a diverse group of authors shaped by this vibrant island town.

In 2012, Carey and Jane Winfrey began filming over 30 Key West writers, capturing their reflections on what makes the community such a literary haven.

Featured voices include Richard Wilbur, Robert Stone, Alison Lurie, Michael Mewshaw, Lee Smith, James Gleick, Phyllis Rose, Brian Antoni, Edmund White, Judy Blume, Bill Wright, Meg Cabot, and many more.

โ€ข John Pennekamp State Park - CRPC โ€“ Key Largo: Cannon Beach offers an easy sandy entry and even historic cannons to swim around just offshore. Boat trips are also available if you want to venture further.
โ€ข Sombrero Beach โ€“ Marathon: A family-friendly sandy beach where you can wade right in and spot fish close to shore.
โ€ข Bahia Honda State Park - CRPC โ€“ Big Pine Key: Calm, shallow waters make this a favorite for beginners and families, with tropical fish and small reef life often spotted close to shore.
โ€ข For Zachary Taylor State Park โ€“ Key West: With rocky areas that attract schools of tropical fish, itโ€™s considered one of the better spots in Key West for snorkeling right off the beach.

โ€ข Alligator Reef โ€“ Islamorada: Four miles offshore at the lighthouse, this reef is a Keys icon with colorful coral and frequent turtle sightings.
โ€ข Sombrero Reef โ€“ off Marathon: Marked by its historic lighthouse, this reef is packed with tropical fish and healthy coral. Itโ€™s just a quick boat ride from Marathon.
โ€ข Looe Key Reef โ€“ off Big Pine Key: Part of the Florida Keys Marine Sanctuary, this is one of the healthiest reefs in the Keys, with everything from angelfish and barracuda to rays and turtles.
โ€ข Sand Key Reef โ€“ off Key West: Just a few miles out, this reef offers great visibility and diverse marine life, with both large catamarans and smaller boats running trips there.
โ€ข Dry Tortugas National Park : Crystal-clear waters surround civil-war era Fort Jefferson, with coral, reef fish, and even a moat wall to snorkel around.
