Today, we are in La Paz, Mexico, and y’all. It. Is. Roasting. Outside. 🥵

But anyhoo, La Paz is known for its marine biodiversity, with the bay being home to a variety of sharks, including the whale shark (the gentle giants)!

When you dock in La Paz, there are no traditional duty-free shops as normal, just a few makers’ stands. To get to downtown, you must sign up for a shuttle ($12 if not pre-booking on board), which takes you downtown and to a beautiful beach, but make sure you pay attention to the last return shuttle time so you aren’t left. The road to town is a two-lane road with no designated sidewalks and is about a 15-minute drive, so it isn’t safe to walk on your own due to the traffic.

Today, we’re in Mazatlan, our second port day of this sailing. The port area is very industrial, with semis actively being loaded and unloaded. Instead of navigating the dock area, they have these trams that take you to the port entry area. I was very glad to see that each tram had the ability to transport two wheelchairs or scooters.

From there, there were your port shops, then an arts and crafts market before leaving the main port area, depositing you directly into a busy street area.

This location is one where you should strongly consider an excursion that includes transportation to really see the area.

Today, we are in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, our first port stop of this sailing.

The weather is great in temperatures, but thunderstorms are abrewin’, so our day is cut short on the exploration side. However, everyone is really friendly.

As we are in Mexico, the currency is in Mexican Pesos. If you pay in US cash, expect pesos as change. If you pay by credit card, your cc company will automatically convert the currency. But with that said, they do use the US dollar sign $, so don’t let the sticker shock scare you. $20 in MXN is just under $2 USD.

We are back to the birthday shenanigans!

We have boarded the Carnival Panorama for the first of two sailings to the Mexican Riviera, sailing out of Long Beach.

For our first sailing, we have a Family Harbor single side accessible interior room. The Family Harbor section has unique décor and a private lounge, where they have complimentary drinks, an ice cream machine, snacks at various times, board games, and video games. This lounge is only accessible by your family harbor key card, and it has proven super convenient thus far.

It’s our first time staying in this room category, but the décor is much better than the typical Carnival room finishings.

More from an amazingly long day at Disneyland. We built light sabers, rode the rides, ate Ronto Wraps, churros, and Mickey Pretzels, enjoyed the special Star Wars projection show and fireworks over the black spiers.

My mom said it was the best Mother’s Day present ever.

Mission accomplished.

May the Force be with you. Always.

Spending the day at Disneyland between adventures! Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is my mom’s favorite place, so she is using her Mother’s Day gift by visiting!

Experiences make great gifts, and it’s the gift that keeps on giving through the lifelong memories made.

Our last port day was spent in Ketchikan, where we did the “Deadliest Catch” Crab Fisherman Tour on the Aleutian Ballad.

This tour was awesome. The crew was absolutely the best and kindest crew I’ve ever had the privilege to meet. We got to see them haul in the crab pods, hold crab and starfish, and see bald eagles dive for herring. It was a fantastic day!

Icy Strait Point is owned and operated by the Tlingit tribe and is right outside Hoonah, Alaska. It was the most beautiful place.

I had not been here before, so I wanted to make sure to see what I could. We took the SkyPeak gondola all the way up to the top of the mountain, and the views were gorgeous. (I have way more video than still pictures, and I’ll post them when I’ve got them edited down a bit.)

The old Hoonah cannery has been turned into a museum and shopping area, but I snapped a few pictures there.

We also saw whales in the bay, though it was hard to catch on camera.

If you’re adventurous, Icy Strait Point is home to the highest zip line in the world. And the views would so be worth it.

So, our day in Skagway got derailed a bit when our excursion to a musher’s camp and gold planning had to be canceled, which was frustrating, but what can you do?

Anyhoo, we spent a little time in the town of Skagway, where we bought a few souvenirs. The wind was absolutely brutal, so we called it early and headed back to the ship to do a little work.

Enjoy a few of these snapshots of Skagway—and even the original Red Onion Saloon, which was used as a red light district back during the gold rush.

Our scenic cruising day was to Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier. It was an extremely cold and rainy start to glacier day, but rain let up a bit, making the subfreezing temps slightly more tolerable.

But it was worth it for the view!
