Today we celebrate King Kamehameha Day and honor the legacy of King Kamehameha I, the leader who united the Hawaiian Islands in 1810 and laid the foundation for the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi.
Established as a state holiday in 1871 by King Kamehameha V, this special day continues to celebrate Hawaiian culture, history, strength, and unity through floral parades, hula, music, ceremonies, and the traditional draping of lei on the King Kamehameha statues across Hawaiʻi.
King Kamehameha was known not only as a powerful warrior and strategist, but also as a leader who created peace and stability throughout the islands. His legacy still lives on today through the values of unity, resilience, leadership, and aloha.
As we celebrate throughout the islands, we remember the importance of preserving Hawaiian culture, honoring our history, and passing these traditions down to future generations. 🌺🤍
Happy King Kamehameha Day from Hawaiʻi. 👑
