re. We specialize in taking families, small kids and first timers deep sea fishing. We are happy and like to have fun with you. If you don’t want to keep all you catch, we can still catch them, take a picture and then release them. If the fish you catch are in season, you are welcome to harvest them. We are open year round with peak seasons running Memorial Day to Labor Day. We offer with two trips daily’s. Our charter boat is a 41 ft Hatteras Yacht that has a restroom, kitchen and an air conditioned cabin. We take up to 6 anglers per trip and we have new and well maintained fishing tackle.

Memory lane 2002. The blue Bimini top was first pic of Distraction over in Destin. She was named “cat in a hat” and while she was in Panama City, she was named “Escudo”.

We took her to Pensacola and gutted the cabin/salon sitting area and added a wheelhouse. All the work that was put into her and the countless hours away from home is reason she was named “Distraction”, because she was a distraction from our marriage.

The last pic is when I showed up at Zekes in Orange Beach.

It was then I realized I had a lot to learn about charter fishing. Being the new guy on the block was interesting too.

Amberjack season is open, but you need to plan on a full day trip to increase your opportunity to catch one.

These fish are often found around larger or high relief artificial reefs or deep water rocks. Most of these structures are located farther away from shore and require a longer ride to get there.

I’ve talked a lot over the years about Momma’s love for her boys, cooking her favorite cajun dishes, but I don’t believe I’ve ever introduced y’all to the lady behind it.

This is my mom, Jackie Duperier. (1935-2003)

I was blessed to be raised by one of the kindest and gentlest people I’ve ever known. She was soft spoken, never needed to be the center of attention, and had a way of treating everybody with kindness and respect.

A lot of how I try to treat people today came from watching her.

She taught me that kindness doesn’t cost anything, that everybody deserves to be treated with respect, and that sometimes the quietest people can have the biggest influence on your life.

Long before there was a Distraction, a Captain Troy, or Momma’s Roux, Jambalaya or a comfort meal, there was simply Mom.

And I was blessed to be hers.

Sometimes the best fishing decision is being flexible.

Yesterday the bite was tough. On top of that, the current was running against the wind and waves, which made holding the boat over the fish uncomfortable.

We don’t anchor or use a spot-lock trolling motor offshore. I maneuver the boat to “hold up” over a reef so everyone can drop their baits to the fish. When the wind, waves and current fight each other, that gets harder for the captain and a whole lot less comfortable for the people fishing.

Last night we saw today’s forecast calling for breezy west winds and 3 ft seas, so we reached out to our customers and asked how long they would be in town.

Why?

Because we care whether they have a good time.

With the bite already being tough, we want every advantage we can get. Better conditions mean we can hold the boat better, people can fish more comfortably, and we have a better opportunity to let the day develop and catch fish.

Could we have gone today? Probably.

But sometimes taking care of people means being flexible enough to wait for a better opportunity instead of simply saying, “You’re booked, let’s go.”

Fishing is never guaranteed. That’s exactly why we try not to stack the odds against you before we ever leave the dock.

Bent poles and smiling faces. That’s still the goal.

Why More Time Matters Late in Red Snapper Season

Late in the red snapper season, sometimes you have to give the day time to develop.

Today started as a 6-hour trip, but our guests decided to extend to 8 hours. Good decision.

The bite was slow all morning. Six people fished hard most of the day, with one having to sit out after getting seasick. We moved, adjusted and kept fishing.

It took nearly the entire 8 hours, but by the end of the day we had caught their limit of 12 red snapper along with 3 triggerfish.

By this point in the season, the closer reefs have seen months of fishing pressure. Some days the fish cooperate quickly. Other days we need more time to travel, move between spots and figure out what they’re willing to eat.

That’s why we never promise a limit of fish. What we can promise is that we’ll keep fishing and give the day every opportunity to come together.

Sometimes the difference isn’t a better fishing spot.

It’s simply having enough time.
