Buzz Lightyear wasn’t like the other toys. He believed he came from another world, had his own way of doing things, and didn’t always understand the rules everyone else followed. At first, he felt out of place, misunderstood, even. But over time, the very things that made him different became the things that made him loved. His courage, loyalty, and unshakable belief in who he was turned him into the hero of the story.
In many ways, Buzz’s journey reminds me of the autism community. Our kids may experience the world differently, but that difference is beautiful, powerful, and worth celebrating. Being autistic isn’t being broken, it’s about being uniquely wired with strengths that don’t always fit inside the typical box.
I wanted to create this “To Inclusion and Beyond” shirt as a love letter to our autism families & my clients, to the ones paving the way, advocating in small and mighty ways, and showing the world that inclusion should never be a question. And I’m so incredibly thankful to Daniela and Alex for believing in this slogan and bringing to life something I’ve dreamed of for two years. Your creativity and heart helped turn this into something truly special. The shirt is playful, meaningful, and filled with heart, just like our kiddos. Because when you take the courage to be yourself, add a sprinkle of advocacy, and wrap it in love, you’ve got a special kind of magic.
So whether you’re in the parks or simply showing your pride at home, I hope this shirt feels like a big warm hug of belonging.
