Garmin Tread 2 SxS Edition Weekend Ride Review
The 8" ultrabright, glove-friendly touch screen is the bomb. Midday Nevada sun + dust = still readable. The touch accuracy with gloves is excellent.
Mapping & Navigation the preloaded topo and downloaded satellite imagery was clutch around Delamar and in Rainbow Canyon. Seeing the roads and washes on imagery helped confirm lines. The waypoints and tracks we used by dropping pins for guzzlers, petroglyphs, and lookouts were quick and track recording never hiccupped.
The ruggedness with two days of dust, vibration, temp swings, and a couple mud splashes, no glitches. Buttons and ports stayed clean, screen wiped clear with a cloth and the unit felt every bit trial-proof.
What stood out on this ride was clarity at speed: at 25–40 mph on graded sections, the big display let us read upcoming forks without slowing. The confidence at intersections with the combo of high-detail maps + satellite view reduced second-guessing when tracks braided.
Room for improvement with the Garmin Tread 2 SXS Edition on my side. There is definitely a learning curve, the menus are deep and probably need to spend some time customizing data fields and shortcuts before a big ride. The on-screen keyboard is fine, but naming waypoints with gloves takes patience.
The Bottom line is if you enjoy exploring beyond cell service, the Garmin Tread 2 SxS Edition nails the essentials: bright, fast, accurate, and truly trail-tough. The included SxS mount and hardwire kit make it feel purpose-built for my machine.
