This was a photo at Sefinenfurgge Pass on the 18th of September. This pass is on the Bernese Oberland Traverse (BOT)/Via Alpina and it is the second highest at 8570 ft. When conditions are like this, we suggest skipping the hike and taking transportation to the other side. Even if you get up to the pass, the other side down is even more treacherous in these conditions.
Remember, snow can happen any time in the mountains, even in the summer!

At Alpinehikers, we will work to customize your trip as you see fit. One couple took a break from hiking and had a cooking class at Gostner Schwaige, Val Gardena, Dolomites, Italy:

"We had our cooking class today. It was great! Franz was very helpful, informative and a great personality. We made gnocchi, spinach dumplings and then plum dumplings for dessert . It was amazing and a great way to spend a rainy afternoon here. It’s definitely worth recommending to people who want some alternative activities."

"This was our third self-guided trip with Alpine Hikers and it was amazing! All the spectacular hiking and scenery we have come back for. We set a new record for elevation in a day, and really enjoyed our high alpine days. I included some photos taken from or of the accommodations set up by you guys - you really hit it out of the park this year! Plus a few very Swiss delights from the trail, and MORE new snow on the Matterhorn! Already plotting where we’ll go next year!"

Murray, Fleur, James, and Joanna saw the glorious Steinbock on the Bernese Oberland Traverse (BOT), September 2024.

The Steinbock, is a European species of goat that lives in the Alps. It is also called the Alpine ibex (Capra ibex). They range in height from 27"–43" and weigh 200–270 lb for males. They can live up to 20 years and their predators are leopards, eagles, and bearded vultures. They are now greatly reduced in numbers. The Steinbock are protected locally in the Italian Alps and have been reintroduced in France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, and Slovenia.

It is always amazing to see these majestic creatures in the wild! Thank you for sharing!

The design for the new intermediate station to the summit of Grands Montets is inspired by pyrite, one of the crystals of the mountain, "allowing the landscape to take center stage." Opens 12/2026.

Pyrite inspired the Grands Montets' new station design After a 2018 fire, the summit should be lift-accessible again by Dec. 2026. Through improved materials and technology, the aim is not to increase capacity but to "to guarantee an optimum number of operating days". The project's sustainability goals are worth a read as well.
