There are faster ways to move through Indonesia. Bigger ships. More modern hulls. Helicopters that leap from island to island in minutes. But none of them tells the story of the archipelago quite like a phinisi.

For centuries, these handcrafted wooden sailing vessels carried spices, textiles, and stories across the Indonesian seas. Built by the Bugis and Konjo shipbuilders of South Sulawesi, phinisi schooners were designed for long voyages through some of the most remote waters on earth — navigating monsoon winds, volcanic coastlines, and coral passages long before modern charts existed. The first 24 hours of an expedition set the tone for everything that follows. After arriving at the gateway to the wilderness, the transition into expedition mode begins almost immediately. Guests are welcomed by the expedition team before boarding Zodiacs for the final approach across the water to the yacht that will serve as home for the journey ahead.

Stepping aboard, there is a realization that this is far more than transportation. The yacht becomes a floating basecamp for exploration, combining comfort and capability in some of the most remote places on Earth.

Guests settle into their cabins before taking time to explore the vessel itself. Observation decks, lounges with panoramic views, wellness spaces including onboard saunas, and carefully designed interiors quickly become familiar surroundings for the days ahead. Outside, the landscape is constantly shifting as glaciers, icebergs, remote coastlines, or volcanic peaks pass by just beyond the railings.

As evening arrives, the first dinner onboard brings everyone together. Meals prepared by the onboard chef reflect the same level of care and detail found throughout the expedition itself. Conversations turn toward the upcoming route, wildlife opportunities, landing plans, weather conditions, and the adventures waiting the next morning.
