EYOS Expeditions has been designing private super-yacht expeditions since 2008, and today the company is widely recognized as the world leader in their industry. Each year, they operate over 50 expeditions in challenging, remote environments for the most prestigious yachts in the world, and their staff have cumulatively led over 1,200 safe Antarctic expeditions. In 2019, EYOS pioneered the first ever “single cabin” departures whereby clients could book individual cabins on a yacht. They hold several ‘world’s firsts,’ and they are a two-time Guinness Book of World Record holder for the furthest south that any vessel has ever reached in history. In 2015, they were invited to be a design partner by Damen shipyards to develop the SeaXplorer expedition yacht and most recently, EYOS has managed and led the historic “Five Deeps” expedition, which includes plans for the deepest manned dive ever in history.

Congratulations to Solace on winning Best in Refit at the 2026 International Superyacht Society (ISS) Design & Leadership Awards!

Now in their 36th year, the ISS Design & Leadership Awards are among the most prestigious honors in the superyacht industry, recognizing excellence in design, innovation, and craftsmanship. This year’s winners were announced on October 28 during the annual gala in Fort Lauderdale, bringing together leading designers, builders, owners, and industry professionals from around the world.

Originally built by Feadship and recently transformed by Pendennis, Solace is a beautiful example of how an extensive refit can breathe new life into an already exceptional yacht. With contributions from RWD, Vickers Studio, and De Voogt, her transformation combines decades of craftsmanship with contemporary design, preparing her for an exciting new chapter on the world’s oceans.

EYOS played an important role in the development of the Xplorer series, providing firsthand expedition expertise to help inform the design and functionality of vessels built to operate in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

With two helicopters and an enclosed hangar, a three-person submersible capable of diving to 500 meters, a fully equipped dive center, expedition tenders, jet skis, and snowmobiles, La Datcha offers guests an incredible range of possibilities for exploration both above and below the surface.

Built to operate in polar environments, her Ice Class construction and ability to remain self-sufficient for up to 40 days make her exceptionally well suited for extended journeys far from traditional cruising routes.

Another season in Antarctica is nearly underway, and we couldn’t be more excited to return to one of the most extraordinary destinations on Earth. From towering glaciers and immense icebergs to incredible wildlife encounters and landscapes unlike anywhere else, Antarctica offers a sense of exploration that is difficult to put into words. Every expedition brings new opportunities for discovery, with no two journeys ever quite the same.

There are few places where wilderness still exists on the scale it does in Alaska. Mountains rise almost directly from the sea, glaciers carve their way through immense valleys and wildlife moves through landscapes that remain remarkably untouched.

Along the coast, Hanse Explorer journeys through remote Alaskan waters where brown bears gather beside salmon streams and whales, sea otters and Steller sea lions thrive among the fjords and islands. Each day brings a different perspective, whether cruising beneath towering mountains, exploring by Zodiac or stepping ashore far from the usual routes.

What makes an expedition yacht an expedition yacht? It is less about how a vessel looks and more about where it can take you, what it allows you to do when you arrive and how readily it can adapt when conditions change.

In the polar regions, that might mean an ice-classed hull capable of navigating remote waters, Zodiacs for reaching otherwise inaccessible shores and helicopters that open up vast stretches of wilderness beyond the coastline. In Indonesia, the priorities may shift toward diving, snorkeling and exploring secluded islands and reefs. The right capabilities depend entirely on the expedition.

Those capabilities can take many forms. Hanse Explorer pairs an ice-classed hull with Zodiac landing craft and dedicated dive facilities. La Datcha carries two helicopters and a Triton submersible capable of descending to 500 meters, while OCTOPUS brings together extensive dive facilities, an ROV, numerous tenders and ice-class capability. A traditional Indonesian phinisi like Lamima offers something different again, providing an ideal platform for exploring the islands, reefs and remote anchorages of Southeast Asia.

No two expedition yachts are quite alike, and they should not be. The vessel is chosen around the experience rather than asking the experience to fit the yacht. Combined with an experienced crew and expedition team, it becomes the platform that makes exploring some of the world’s most remote places possible.

Few places reveal themselves quite like Alaska. Along the coast, mountains disappear into deep fjords and temperate rainforest reaches the water’s edge. Far inland, those forests give way to the immense glaciers and snow-covered peaks of the Alaska Range.

Aboard Hanse Explorer, explore the wild coastline of Southeast Alaska through the Inian Islands, Icy Strait and the ABC Islands. These waters are alive with humpback whales, Steller sea lions and sea otters, while brown bears gather along salmon streams and bald eagles patrol the shoreline. Zodiacs and kayaks offer another way into the landscape, before Hanse Explorer continues into Tracy Arm and the Fords Terror Wilderness Area beneath the towering walls surrounding South Sawyer Glacier.

From Juneau, the journey shifts from sea to summit with a helicopter flight into Denali National Park. At 6,000 feet above the Ruth Glacier, Sheldon Chalet sits surrounded by the peaks and glaciers of the Don Sheldon Amphitheater, offering days of hiking, climbing, skiing and exploring the alpine wilderness with expert guides.

Who is Rob McCallum?

As one of the founding partners of EYOS, Rob has spent more than four decades leading exploration in some of the most remote places on Earth.

He has circumnavigated Antarctica, made multiple visits to the Poles, led deep-sea expeditions to Titanic and all of the world’s 10,000m+ deep ocean trenches. In 2021, he descended 10,925 metres to Challenger Deep, becoming the deepest-diving New Zealander.

His work goes well beyond leading expeditions. Rob has helped develop the next generation of expedition vessels and remains closely involved in ocean science through Yachts for Science, Nekton and Ocean Census, helping open up parts of the ocean that few people have ever had the opportunity to study.

That experience is a huge part of what makes EYOS what it is today. Rob has been there from the beginning, helping build a company around the idea that with the right people, preparation and expertise, there is very little of the world that is truly out of reach.
