For April Moxley, opening April's on Main wasn’t just about starting a business.
It was about building a place that makes people feel happy the moment they walk through the door.
After years of working in a family business in a similar industry, April knew she loved helping people create warm, welcoming spaces in their homes. Eventually, she decided it was time to take a leap of faith and create something of her own.
Historic Main Street St. Charles was the perfect fit.
The charm.
The history.
The ambiance.
The sense of community.
But what truly captured her heart was the people.
April says one of the things she loves most about Main Street is the unity between the businesses, especially on her block. From supporting one another during events to helping local charities and volunteering throughout the community, she believes being part of something bigger is one of the most rewarding parts of owning a business here.
One moment, in particular, still stands out.
The day she officially opened the shop and pulled the paper off the windows, three people she had known for more than twenty years happened to walk by. All three came inside and intentionally purchased something just so they could be her very first customers.
To April, that moment felt like confirmation that she had made the right decision.
Today, she continues to pour that same warmth and gratitude into every customer interaction.
Her hope is simple:
That people feel welcomed, appreciated, and happy when they visit — whether they buy something or simply stop in for inspiration and connection.
Because for April, small businesses are about far more than transactions.
They’re about relationships.
Community.
Personal connection.
And creating experiences you simply can’t find online.
