For April Moxley, opening April's on Main wasn’t just about starting a business.

It was about building a place that makes people feel happy the moment they walk through the door.

After years of working in a family business in a similar industry, April knew she loved helping people create warm, welcoming spaces in their homes. Eventually, she decided it was time to take a leap of faith and create something of her own.

Historic Main Street St. Charles was the perfect fit.

The charm.
The history.
The ambiance.
The sense of community.

But what truly captured her heart was the people.

April says one of the things she loves most about Main Street is the unity between the businesses, especially on her block. From supporting one another during events to helping local charities and volunteering throughout the community, she believes being part of something bigger is one of the most rewarding parts of owning a business here.

One moment, in particular, still stands out.

The day she officially opened the shop and pulled the paper off the windows, three people she had known for more than twenty years happened to walk by. All three came inside and intentionally purchased something just so they could be her very first customers.

To April, that moment felt like confirmation that she had made the right decision.

Today, she continues to pour that same warmth and gratitude into every customer interaction.

Her hope is simple:
That people feel welcomed, appreciated, and happy when they visit — whether they buy something or simply stop in for inspiration and connection.

Because for April, small businesses are about far more than transactions.

They’re about relationships.
Community.
Personal connection.
And creating experiences you simply can’t find online.

Meet Robert and Marsha Palleja, owners of Di Olivas Oil & Vinegar.

Some businesses begin with a business plan.
Others begin with a feeling.

For Di Olivas Oil and Vinegar, it started in 2007 with a visit to a small gourmet shop that completely changed the way Robert thought about food, flavor, and hospitality.

He fell in love with the experience — the quality of the olive oils and balsamic vinegars, the warmth of the store itself, and the way tasting brought people together. Instead of simply admiring the concept, Robert decided to take a chance on himself and bring that experience to Historic Main Street St. Charles.

On March 1, 2011, Di Olivas opened its doors.

What makes the shop special goes beyond the shelves of gourmet oils and vinegars. Robert and Marsha have worked to create flavors unique to their store, designing many blends customers cannot find anywhere else. But even more than that, they’ve created an experience that simply cannot be replicated online.

From the moment customers walk through the doors, they are invited to taste, explore, ask questions, and discover unexpected flavor pairings alongside a knowledgeable team that genuinely uses and loves the products themselves.

The goal isn’t just shopping.
It’s connection.

Robert says he still feels humbled every time a customer says they drove several hours just to visit Di Olivas. Whether they’ve traveled from Kansas City, Springfield, Farmington, or beyond, those moments serve as a reminder that Main Street businesses become part of people’s traditions, memories, and experiences.

And for the Pallejas, Main Street itself is part of that story.

“The rhythm… it has its own beat.”

From festivals and events to the shop owners and stakeholders who work tirelessly behind the scenes, they believe the street has a charm and energy unlike anywhere else.

Their hope is simple:
That everyone who walks into Di Olivas feels welcomed, comfortable, and excited to discover something new.

She left the fashion industry in Los Angeles… but her hometown brought her back.”

Born and raised in St. Charles, Nicole Moss-Doelger always had a passion for fashion and creativity. After beginning her career as a fashion designer in LA, she eventually returned home to be closer to family and build something of her own right here on Historic Main Street.

In 2009, MOss Boutique opened its doors.

What began with Nicole selling her own designs alongside her mother has grown into one of Main Street’s favorite fashion destinations — serving everyone from high school students to moms to CEOs.

Nicole’s experience in the fashion industry still influences every part of the boutique today, from carefully curated collections to bringing exciting brands like Kendra Scott to Main Street St. Charles.

But beyond fashion, what she loves most is the community she’s built here.

The customers. The neighboring businesses. The events that bring thousands together. The support that keeps small businesses going.

When you walk through the doors of Moss Boutique, Nicole hopes you feel welcomed, excited, and comfortable enough to try something new.

Because behind every storefront on Main Street is a story — and this is one of them. 🤍
