We fought hard to land this single 30 lb shibi through the large pod of aggressive dolphins on Saturday! Out of five bites, this is the only tuna that made it through the sea of teeth trying to get a quick meal. After hours of live baiting, we switched to trolling in calmer seas and came across the most exciting animal we get to see on a rare occasion off Maui’s waters… swipe to see a screen shot from the video, which will be coming shortly!

Had such a fun day with this crew, and after searching long and hard, we found the action! Three shibi (yellowfin tuna) over 20 lbs and two mahi. You know the fish is big when it’s a foot taller than your 9 year old!

Well we managed to pull off a successful day landing this nice little Ono, despite the large number of pilot whales around the buoys again. The weather is beautiful and we’re booking up fast, so give us a call to get your fishing fix!

Epic double- header moment when we got a reel screamin’ Ono bite, and as Linda was bringing it in, our long-gone went off with a nice shibi! Linda and Alyssa landed both fish side by side with help from Mark. Great teamwork between the three to land two of our favorite eating sushi grade fish- Ono (wahoo) and Shibi (yellowfin tuna). Happy birthday Linda, and thanks for the sunglasses 😎

Finally back on the water after some maintenance for Mjölnir this week. We were relieved to get away from the massive pod of pilot whales that have been prevalent around many of the buoys this past week and land some fantastic fighting fish! Three nice mahi and one yellowfin tuna that weighed in at 28 lbs after it was gilled and gutted. Our largest mahi was 34 lbs!

Well love a first time pelagic fishing success! These boys had never gone sport fishing before and trust me, these big mahis made sport of the fight! I had to teach the guys the dorsal fin flare trick with the teeth…

Well this crew was a blast from start to finish. Knowing ahead of time we would have rough seas, everyone was prepared for the wild ride we endured for 8 hours on Wednesday. Trolling for hours and managing to seek out a few buoys in some big swell, we finally got a hook up and knew immediately it wasn’t a mahi we were playing tug-o-war with. After a few brilliant runs, this nice little Ono came up to the boat and everyone was stoked. Congrats to the newlyweds, and thanks for a fun day, yall!

Epic catch for Gavin’s first time being on the ocean and getting not only a handful of nice size mahi, but finishing the day off with a nice 15-20 lb shibi (yellowfin tuna)!! This was a trip he had been taking about for months beforehand, and we are thrilled to have made these dreams come true for the Mathis family.

We had yet another beautiful day on the water with a lengthy, hard search for fish. Success isn’t in the number or size of the fish, but the enjoyment of the experience overall. Needless to say we were all thrilled when Brian, Ashton and Deegan got to land this absolute beast of a bull mahi. For these bass fishermen, this was a fish of a lifetime, (so far) weighing in at 31.78 lbs.

We enjoyed the most incredibly calm, flat seas with Mike and Michael the other morning, searching farther and wider than we ever have before to find fish. Early in the morning, Mike landed this cute mahi nugget, and despite all our efforts, that was the only fish in the ocean that day. Now some of you may think “they should have thrown it back!” And there are several reasons why we did not… first, this fish swallowed a whole bait and the hook was set way down in its gut, so removing the hook without fatally wounding the mahi was not possible. Secondly, once filleted, there was enough meat to feed Mike, Michael and the whole family! Mahi are the FASTEST growing pelagic species, growing 1-1.5 inches in a week, and breeding by three months of age. So we consider this a win for the day- we landed a fish, fed a family, and enjoyed good company on our charter! We look forward to fishing with these guys again soon!
