What’s more, there is something very special to look forward to this year. 🇿🇦🌸 The South African team’s award-winning “Life After Fire” floral exhibit is being recreated in Stanford. This incredible South African exhibit won a gold medal at the famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show and was named Best Exhibit in the Great Pavilion. 🏆🇿🇦 🌿

BUT WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND STANFORD? Stanford isn’t just a pretty village—it also holds an interesting piece of history. The village is situated along the Klein River, approximately 23 km from Hermanus, and the area's history dates back to the early 1700s. The farm on which Stanford was later developed eventually belonged to Sir Robert Stanford, and the village took its name from him. On 5 May 1856, the first plots of the new village were auctioned off, and Stanford began to develop into the unique Overberg village we know today.

What I find so wonderful is that much of Stanford’s original character has been preserved. 🏡 Historic houses and buildings 🌳 Large old trees and peaceful streets 🌿 The Klein River and surrounding nature 📖 A town layout that still tells the story of its past Stanford’s historic core is protected as a heritage area today—and when you walk through the town, you understand why. There is something special about a place where the past hasn't completely vanished to make way for the new. Instead, the two coexist.

❤️ And during Stanford in Bloom, that beautiful old village becomes even more colourful. 🌸 Flowers 🎨 Art 🌿 Gardens and nature 🛍️ Local stalls ☕ Great spots to eat and drink 📸 And, of course, plenty of opportunities for beautiful photos!
