North Tanzania is an excellent place to visit in May when the rains have eased, the landscapes are still lush, and wildlife is active across the northern circuit.

It is also a very practical time to travel: the parks are close enough to combine into one seamless safari, yet each offers a different experience depending on whether you want big game, birding, scenery, or a slower-paced journey.

Serengeti is the headline act of North Tanzania, famous for its vast plains and exceptional wildlife viewing. In May, the park is fresh and green, which makes game drives scenic and rewarding, and it is especially strong for classic safari viewing and predator sightings.

Lake Manyara sits in the Rift Valley and is best known for its lake, birdlife, and dramatic escarpment setting. It is a particularly good choice for birding, photography, and a shorter park visit that still feels varied and memorable.
