Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda: A ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME EXPERIENCE 🦍🌿

“There are some moments you don’t just experience… you feel. And this was definitely one of them. Trekking through the Rwandan jungle, following our trackers and guides, not quite knowing what to expect… until suddenly we heard those words: “They’re here.” And just like that, there they were. A whole family of wild mountain gorillas, just metres away. No fences. No glass. Just us, standing in their world. Watching them go about their day, eating, playing and interacting with each other, completely unbothered by our presence, was something I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put into words.

And then one looked straight at me… and yep, I absolutely lost it.

I think that’s what made this experience so special. It wasn’t just seeing gorillas in the wild. It was being given the chance to quietly observe these incredible animals in their natural habitat, even if only for a little while. A reminder of just how extraordinary the natural world is, and how lucky we are to experience it.

Still trying to process how lucky we were to have this experience. Definitely one of those moments that will stay with us forever.

Beneath the Surface. A different perspective on a place we thought we knew.

There’s so much more to South Africa’s coastline than what we see from the shore.

On Tuesday evening, we brought together people who share a connection to our coast for an evening of film, storytelling and conversation. An opportunity to look a little closer, listen to different perspectives and perhaps leave seeing a familiar place differently.

The evening began with a screening short screening of Out of Mined, a documentary exploring the people, places and challenges shaping South Africa’s West Coast.

This was followed by a fascinating conversation hosted by Pippa Hudson, bringing together Mike Schlebach from Protect the West Coast, Dr Alistair McInnes from BirdLife South Africa, Pier Nirandara, award-winning author and underwater photographer, and Justin Chapman, one of our Go2Africa Safari Experts.

From the extraordinary wildlife beneath our waters to the people whose livelihoods are connected to the coast, the discussion reminded us just how interconnected these stories are.

At Go2Africa, we believe that extraordinary experiences can change how we see the world. When we connect more deeply with a place, we begin to understand it differently. And with that understanding comes care, and sometimes the inspiration to make a difference, big or small.

That’s why we hosted Beneath the Surface and last years Pangolin Round Table. To bring people together, share perspectives and spark conversations that continue long after the evening ends.

A huge thank you to Pippa Hudson for guiding such an engaging conversation, to Mike Schlebach, Alistair from BirdLife South Africa, Pier Nirandara and Justin Chapman for sharing their knowledge and personal experiences, and to everyone who joined us.

There are very few things that can convince us that 5am is a good idea...

A sunrise over the Mara is one of them. A leopard appearing out of nowhere is another. And breakfast in the middle of the bush? Well, we’ll get up for that too.

Some of the best parts of safari happen before the rest of the world is awake. 🐘

Our Head of Positive Impact and Product Development Liesel van Zyl recently visited Victoria Falls, spending time on the ground and deepening the first-hand knowledge that shapes the journeys we create.

“After more than five visits to Victoria Falls, I’m still discovering new ways to experience it. Of course, there’s the sheer spectacle of the Falls - the deafening roar, the spray, the rainbows, the sun and the living rainforest but there’s so much more to Vic Falls than the waterfall itself. I love the variety: cycling through town and the local market, spotting an ancient baobab, following the Zambezi where hippos have been grazing through the night, and then wandering past cafés and galleries before ending up at the bridge overlooking the Falls. It’s a place with real character - wild and spectacular, but also lively, welcoming and wonderfully easy to explore. Every time I come back, there’s another side to discover.”
