For young lion cubs, playtime is actually
survival training.

Every tiny tumble and mischievous wrestle builds muscle, sharpens coordination, and prepares them for life in the wild.

These little ones are already hard at work, they just don’t know it yet!

“This is Ria the cheetah. She has been around Somalisa since February 2016, so she knows this place well.

On this day, she was going from termite mound to termite mound, climbing up, looking around. She was in a hunting mood, you could tell. She came close to camp, walking around, checking everything. Then she went down to the pan and we filmed her there with the camp in the background, which was really something.

After drinking some water she just walked away, relaxed, up into the ridge towards Somalisa Expeditions. Just like that, she was gone again.”

Today, 94% of our Experiences are powered by renewable energy, and we are only getting started.

We reside within some of Africa’s most remarkable ecosystems, an extraordinary privilege that shapes everything we do.

From how we build to how we give back, every decision starts with the land. This means low-impact design, conservation, community, and responsible operations.

Inspired by nature. For climate. For our future.

Mana Pools has a way of delivering moments that exceed every expectation.

Golden light filtering through the iconic albida forests, a pod of hippos settling into the shallows of a sun-warmed pool, and the water catching the last of the light. Here, you can leave the vehicle, feel the ground beneath you, get eye-level with the animals, and find the perfect frame.

More than a photographer’s paradise, Mana Pools is an experience that stays with you long after the light fades.

A walking safari returns you to your most instinctive self.

The delicate scent of wild sage on the breeze. The story written in a single track pressed into the sand, visible only if you learn how to look. The crunch of dry earth beneath your boots. The flutter of wings overhead, letting you know something is nearby. And then, the incredible stillness of a moment shared with an animal in its own world.

You don’t simply observe the bush on a walking safari. You become part of it.

After Cecil was killed in 2015, the Spice Girls faced an urgent task: to protect his seven cubs at all costs.

When Bhubesi moved into the territory at Somalisa, filling the void left by the dominant male, the Spice Girls wanted nothing to do with him. Their instinct was right. A new dominant male will kill existing cubs to trigger the females into estrus and begin his own bloodline. For almost a year, they evaded him entirely.

It was only on September 9th, 2016, that guide Calvet found Bhubesi together with the Spice Girls for the first time. By then, Cecil’s cubs were nearly sub-adults, around two years old and far less vulnerable. Bhubesi accepted them.

It took almost a year before Bhubesi and the Spice Girls finally came together. By then, Cecil’s cubs were safe. What followed wrote itself into Somalisa’s history: five male cubs, all sired by Bhubesi. The beginning of a new bloodline.
