Always good to personally test out some of our preferred properties and golf courses in the off season - I’ve just seen 2 absolute gems in the north of our country: Highland Gate Golf Club & Walkerson’s Hotel & Spa near Dullstroom.

The Ernie Els designed course is phenomenal and such a treat to play. The conditioning was flawless (and in the middle of winter) and the layout so interesting. The scenery is spectacular and greens nice and fast. Definitely in my personal Top 5 now. Then the perfect place to stay only 30-mins from the course, is Walkerson’s. It has a beautiful “Scottish Highlands” feel with all the fly-fishing trout dams and surrounding mountains. The hotel fits in perfectly with the setting and once the fires are burning inside and the red wine is flowing…it’s such a perfect place to stay for a few nights. Special mention about the great food too - must try the rainbow trout!

The recently refurbished Blaauwklippen Vineyards Hotel & Winery is looking absolutely fantastic and is the perfect stay for a winter or summer experience in Stellenbosch. Gary Player Country Club is one of the best walking golf courses in South Africa, truly exceptional! For those of you looking for a winter golf experience, Gary Player & Lost City Golf Course are definitely ones you should have on your list!

We are so lucky to live and work in one of the most beautiful cities in the world - Cape Town! Middle of winter and we are playing golf at Atlantic Beach Links and surfing in Muizenberg…and just enjoying the beautiful outdoors. South Africa is definitely a country you can visit all year round.
