Travel insurance is one thing I always recommend taking seriously, especially when it comes to pre-existing medical conditions.

One of the most important things to remember when arranging travel insurance: always disclose your current and previous medical conditions to your insurer or travel agent when your policy is issued.

Why? Because if a condition hasn’t been disclosed and you need to make a claim related to it, you may risk having that claim declined.

A pre-existing condition can include a condition that:
- Is currently being treated, investigated, managed with medication, or awaiting tests, results, specialist review or surgery
- Has previously been diagnosed, treated, investigated, or required medical consultation
- Has caused symptoms you’ve noticed or experienced (even if you didn’t seek medical advice)
- Is ongoing, chronic, recurring, or has resulted in complications

A few things I always remind my clients:
- Don’t assume a medical assessment means your premium will be higher.
- Routine health checks are not usually an issue.
- If you’re unsure, declare it. It’s always better to ask.

Travel insurance isn’t one-size-fits-all, and every traveller’s circumstances are different. The right policy is about making sure you’re properly covered, so you can enjoy your holiday with confidence.
