This July, I’ll be travelling with my family to the breathtaking islands of Vanuatu. We’re excited to soak up everything the islands have to offer—snorkelling, horse riding, visiting turtles, beach buggy adventures, and so much more.
One of the highlights I’m especially looking forward to is spending a day at Ekipe Junior Secondary School, where my daughters have been invited to join in on local classes. Ekipe is situated on the northeast side of Efate, about an hour’s drive from Port Vila.
Over the past five years, Vanuatu has endured several devastating natural disasters, including multiple cyclones and earthquakes. Most recently, in December 2024, a powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck near the capital, Port Vila. The disaster claimed at least 14 lives, left over 200 injured, and caused severe damage to critical infrastructure such as hospitals and bridges. The nation is still in the process of recovery.
As part of our visit to Ekipe, we’ll be bringing donations to support the local community. I have had people ask me if they could send some items also so if you’d like to contribute, I’ll share a list of needed items in the comments. I’m more than happy to take them with us. If you have any of these items lying around home, they would be greatly appreciated.
