End of Financial Year Reflections 🌿

Standing here in the winter sun—UV Drift Tee on, Grit Glider Jacket un-zipped, the gravel bike propped beside me on its new G-RAD50 carbon wheels—I’m reminded how many different roads can lead to the same destination: purpose.

This has been a huge year across the Cafe Racer Alliance. Unbound Velo is just one arm of this crazy, creative engine. From launching Hydraplay into the market and watching the race team light up the bunch rides, to distributing Pure Mist water and gin (and learning more about gin botanicals than I ever thought possible), it’s been a year of building, refining, and backing good people.

We’ve also stepped deeper into mental health impact with the MAP App and Big 5, standing alongside Professor Nick Titov, who received an OAM for his incredible work in digital mental health. That recognition is something I’ll never forget witnessing.

To everyone who rode with us, stocked our products, supported our events, and believed in the vision—thank you. You are the reason this all keeps moving.

To Gilly, my loyal four-legged sidekick. To Hydraplay, who trusted us to help bring their brand to life. And Charlie Blaze McRae—my newest and most favourite thing in the world—thank you for reminding me that creativity, connection, and adventure can live together in one wild, unbound life.

Here’s to the next financial year: more rides, more growth, more moments that remind us why we do any of this in the first place.

Some mornings, we don’t ride.

Some mornings, we trade watts for waves and tyres for toes in the sand.
We let the wind whip around while we sit still — Gilly by our side, ears twitching, already one breath ahead.

No start line, no KOM, no heart rate monitor.
Just a moment. A ritual. A reset.

Wrapped in our favourite wind protector — the UV Grit Glider — we soak it all in.
Because adventure doesn’t always need wheels.

The morning started strong—pre-ride caffeine, good legs, and great company at Latteria . Spirits were high, espresso even higher.

Then came the plot twist.

Not 1k in, I got nailed—literally. One rogue spike through the tyre and boom: instant sealant art installation. While the lads pushed on, I limped home like a wounded warrior, bike oozing yellow sadness.

But fear not—redemption is rolling in hot. Fitting fresh Maxxis race tyres today. Time to level up and leave puncture drama in the past.

Today I’m off the bike and into the barrel room … well into QVB and the awesome ESQ Bar - I’mhosting the live auction at the Wine Warriors Lunch, where three of Australia’s best sommeliers battle for the crown.

No lycra today… but still some seriously great legs.

Honoured to be among hospitality royalty, raising a glass (and some bids) for a good cause and supporting the next batch of Aussie Wine Warriors!
