Surprise! With an early summer breeding, we welcomed one pup last Sunday. It is not usual to have only one in a litter, and we typically pick a theme to name them. So, with this little girl being the solo pup, we are looking for name suggestions!
Mom: Sydney
Dad: Kidd
Staff suggestions to base the name on: monetary value (Pennie!), hocky theme (Syd the Kidd) ??, Sydney, Australia ( Joey, Roo!), different languages for "one" (Uno!).....

Do we have a wildfire evacuation plan? Absolutely! The safety of our dogs is a priority and preparedness for dealing with wildfire is essential. Thankfully we haven’t come close to being evacuated, but with all the current issues in western Canada it is definitely on our minds. Our thoughts are also with the many families whose homes, farms and animals are affected by the evacuations and loss of property because the wildfires. Keep safe!

Senior Sunday! Many people ask what happens with the senior dogs. We do not pick an arbitrary age at which they retire - we let them tell us when they are ready. So we can still have huskies running in the tours at age 12 or 13! Once they retire, we look at their personalities and make the decision to rehome them or not. The geriatric section in our yard is where they will stay amongst other retirees. They still enjoy free runs and the regular daily routine of being watered, fed, brushed, and loved!

FAQ: What do the dogs do in the summer? We keep the activity low in the summer simply because the heat can be dangerous to the dogs. They know it is off season, so they can be found chilling by their house. They play, eat, sleep and repeat!

FAQ: What do the dogs eat?
Proper nutrition is vital to the sled dogs' health. We start with the frozen, ground chicken which gets thawed in buckets of water. Then we add a high quality kibble (30% protein, 20% fat) and some zinc, stir it up and feed it out. The raw diet provides essential proteins and fat, the kibble adds vitamins and fiber, and the zinc is an essential mineral for maintaining a strong immune system and healthy skin and coat.

Now that June has come and gone, we hope the rainy season has settled. Typically the wettest month, June give us extra duties in the yard - changing the straw in the houses to keep the dog dry! Throughout the year, this is one of the most important task for the crew. We keep a good supply of straw on hand, so if it is cold or wet, we can change it out for the proper comfort of our canine companions.
