Some stories make Conwy tours even more special…
This week, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Sarah, who had travelled all the way from New Zealand to Conwy to visit a place that had been part of her family’s story for generations.
Sarah’s ancestor emigrated to New Zealand in 1893 aboard the Massilia, bringing with them a very special little piece of Conwy.
It’s a beautiful glass paperweight, estimated to have been made around 1865–1870, with a photograph of Conwy Suspension Bridge and Conwy Castle inside. The picture is completely encased in glass, preserving this wonderful little snapshot of Conwy for generations to come.
Sarah’s grandfather had brought this treasured paperweight to New Zealand, and she had always longed to visit the place shown in the photograph.
And this week, she finally made it!
Just imagine carrying a little piece of Conwy across the world in the 1800s, only for a descendant to one day stand right here, looking at the very same view.
And somehow, I got to be part of her journey through one of my Conwy tours. 👻
This is one of the reasons why I feel so privileged to do what I do.
Every tour gives me the opportunity to meet wonderful people from all over the world, hear their incredible stories, and share the history, heritage and beauty of this extraordinary town.
Conwy isn't just a place on a map. For so many people, it's a connection to family, heritage, memories and dreams that have lasted for generations.
