The in is an area you can literally drink in the history of the city with nods of the past all around. The one time place of the public executions pub is not exactly subtle, nor is Maggie Dickson’s, named after the woman who cheated death and the hangman. inn hides a dark secret in the form of the death cell door salvaged from Calton Jail. has a history spanning over 500 years and it’s connections to the Irish serial killers . It is also the last place Robert Burns stayed in Edinburgh before his untimely death. And what about , small in size but big in atmosphere. After a day out touring with us, the Grassmarket is the perfect location to unwind and reflect on the memories created while adding a few more. Edinburgh is not just a city of sights but also amazing experiences.

Lost valley of Glencoe -
Coire Gabhail (corrie of the bounty) is a concealed glen hidden behind the massive bulk of the three sisters and accessed by a narrow ravine which conceals the width of the glen it is commonly known as the hidden or lost valley of Glencoe
Steep in places , rocky and you will need to be prepared for some light scrambling and a shallow river crossing
An exciting beautiful hike with lots of variety that finishes up in the stunning hidden valley
Walk there and back should take an average of 2-3 hours , basic fitness is required and it’s Scotland so don’t expect maps , directions or well defined paths , climb up and over or through the rocks (easy climbing) cross a shallow river on stepping stones to be rewarded with the sight of the hidden valley where legend has it the McDonald’s would hide there stolen cattle , also the place where the McDonald’s who managed to flee the Glencoe massacre in 1692 fled to and hid and ended up dying in the freezing highland winter
Also the start of the climb up the the Munro Bidean nam bian , the highest point in Glencoe and Argyll
Atmospheric and steeped in folklore and history , this is an exciting adventure deep into the heart of Glencoe.

You have seen our ‘acting’ skills, but it also appears we could be talented set dressers! 😂 we spied a very familiar clock in Lallybroch during buck and Roger’s recent visit… and then those of you who watched our recent Hogmanay reel will also recognise this mini star 😂😂 Okay it’s not the actual clock but what are the chances we set dressers exactly the same style of brass clock in the same location for near enough the same era?!

Scotland is home to many iconic scenes used in filming, and sometimes two locations, a few miles apart can be used at the same time and in the same scene! What is this wizardry we hear you ask, well ironically enough in this case Wizard is the right word to use! Many visitors instantly recognise Eilean na Moine Island, or as it is becoming known as, Dumbledore’s Island. However those clever CGI wizards at Warner Bros Studios place the island in Loch Arkaig, rather than Loch Eilt where is is currently situated.

If you are taking a ride on the Jacobite train over the Glenfinnan Viaduct you will pass by it while on your journey. However if you want to get a little closer and experience the sights, smells and sounds of the water why not come out on a tour with us! However the best bit of advice we can offer is wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet and muddy unless of course you are privy to the spell of the hot air charm!!!

YORK
The city of York was founded in 71ad. It became the capital of the Roman Province of Britannia Inferior which was the northern half of current day England. The Roman name was Eboracum.

In the Middle Ages it was northern Englands ecclesiastical centre and was famous for wool making. In the 19th century it became a major railway network hub and confectionery manufacturing centre.

York itself has a very well intact wall surrounding the city. This was to protect the city from constant attack from the Scots. Nowadays there are lots of sections of the wall that are walkable.

York is a beautifully preserved medieval city. Probably the best in the UK. The history is deep. Dating back to Roman times and a massive medieval history.

York is part of our three day tour of Northumberland and Yorkshire. It’s an absolutely epic tour and it’s nice to see history from an English perspective rather than a Scottish one.
