We're rounding the corner of the busy tourist season and I just had the loveliest group this past week to take into the Highlands. The colours are hitting hard and when there's sun it's absolutely golden!

One more to go this year with to cap off a great summer season.

It's that time of year - days are longer, the sun has been shining and I've been lucky to have time to go out exploring once more. From the familiar to the new I've had great travel buddies like and to keep me company on the road. Don't wait on a nice day, get out there!

I don't typically post personal stuff but something big has happened that I felt I had to share.

I've been living in Scotland since February 15th, 2018 and on January 13th, 2024 I was approved for British citizenship. I still have my ceremony to pledge loyalty to my new country but that last step is a skip away.

I'll never not be Canadian but now I get to be this as well, and after all that I've done to make it happen I'll never take it for granted. As far as I know, I'm only second person in 2 generations to be both Canadian and British. Over 90 years ago, my maternal grandfather left the UK to seek opportunity in the New World. Now, in a new century, I've come back across the water again. I'd be very curious what he'd think of it all.

To those of my friends and family who are with me on every step of my journey, I can't do it without you and grateful I haven't had to. To guests who've been on my tours you add so much colour to the story of my life. To those who are still to come for a visit, this truly Canadian Scot is waiting for you.

It's amazing what you can find when you get out of the cities and onto the road less taken. The West Highlands and coast of Scotland is full of history, from distilleries to churches to castles to ruins. Oban is a great jumping off point so grab a car and get out there as we head into summer!

Jumping on the bandwagon of lights posts, I got out of town near Stirling to enjoy some lights. Sometimes, going on a random adventure when it's offered is the absolute right thing to do. 10 out of 10 recommend!

This April has been an absolute mess but the upside is the stunning colours we get after the fact. If you're finding the city a bit much enjoy the colours, history and peace of . Lots of paths to take you around the graves, mort safes, Gothic burials, through the city's Medieval wall and includes the popular culture of Harry Potter lore.

Even with the days getting shorter and colder it shouldn't stop you getting out there. Despite a minor knee injury, I went out for 6 glorious days up north of over 1,000 miles of exploring with great company. From Aberdeen to Achnasheen to Applecross, from Inverness to Skye to Pitlochry, and finally from Dunkeld to Stirling to Edinburgh, the colours, the coast and the wildlife were on fire.
