Outside space is a big part of the experience onboard Borealis.

When I visited Fred. Olsen’s Borealis, what stood out was how easy it felt to find somewhere to relax and enjoy being at sea.

There’s a swimming pool with a retractable roof, so it can be enjoyed whatever the weather, along with two Jacuzzis for a proper switch-off.

For more relaxation, there’s a thermal suite and spa treatment rooms, while outside you’ll find traditional favourites such as shuffleboard, the Promenade Deck, dedicated viewpoints and the Forecastle – a fantastic spot for looking out over the destination ahead.

Planning Walt Disney World? Before you choose the hotel, flights or even start thinking about which park to visit first, let’s talk tickets.

It’s one of the areas I think is really worth understanding before you book, because choosing the right Disney ticket can make a big difference to both what you can do and the overall value of your holiday.

Personally, I’m a big fan of the 14-Day Disney Magic Ticket for families spending a proper holiday in Orlando. It gives you the flexibility to enjoy Disney without feeling you have to cram everything into a handful of exhausting park days.

You can visit the four main Theme Parks, enjoy the Disney Water Parks, hop between parks and even have Memory Maker included for your Disney PhotoPass photos. There are other extras included too, which people often don’t realise when they first start comparing ticket prices.

And there’s a particularly good reason to look at tickets now.

What are the cabins actually like onboard Fred. Olsen’s Borealis?

While I was onboard Borealis, I had the opportunity to look around several different types of accommodation – and there’s considerably more choice than you might expect.

I visited an adapted suite, and what immediately stood out was the amount of space. Fred. Olsen’s adapted accommodation has been designed with accessibility in mind, with options including roll-in showers and additional room to move around.

Then there was the Premier Suite – beautifully decorated, spacious and somewhere you could very happily settle into for a longer voyage. These are approximately 568–644 sq ft, with a king-size bedroom, separate sitting and dressing areas, floor-to-ceiling windows and a private balcony with table, chairs and sun loungers.

I also looked at a Terrace Cabin, which I thought was a really interesting option. Rather than a traditional private balcony, sliding glass doors lead directly onto the Promenade Deck, where you have two designated sun loungers – almost like having the ship’s promenade on your doorstep.

Throughout the accommodation, I found the décor comfortable and elegant rather than ultra-modern or flashy – very much in keeping with the more traditional style of cruising Fred. Olsen is known for.

And solo travellers are absolutely welcome.

Borealis has dedicated solo accommodation, including Single Superior Interior, Single Ocean View and even Single Balcony Suite options, so travelling alone certainly doesn’t mean being restricted to one type of cabin.

With 702 cabins onboard, there’s a good range of accommodation to suit different requirements and budgets.

One of the reasons I like visiting ships personally is that photographs and deck plans only tell you so much. Seeing the cabins for myself means I can have a much better conversation with you about which one might actually suit you.
