The art of travelling with children is something we have mastered over 12 years of building W**erist.

When our children were born, so was a new family tradition: bringing them along on w**ery visits, joining cooking classes and hiking the Amalfi Coast before long lunches beneath the lemon trees, cooling down with homemade lemonade while the adults occasionally added a little limoncello.

We quickly learnt that w**e businesses are family businesses. Our children played with w**emakers’ children while we tasted in the cellars, walked through vineyards and shared food around crowded tables. Over the years, we have returned not only to visit our w**emakers, but to see our friends and to watch their children grow into the next generation who may one day care for the same land and make its w**es.

It often makes us wonder whether, in our obsession with longevity, we have forgotten some of the things that have sustained people for centuries: locally grown food, long lunches, several generations around one table and a glass of w**e enjoyed slowly and in good company.

We are not raising our children to drink w**e. We are raising them to respect w**emaking: the work, the sweat, the patience, the history and the love behind every bottle.

And perhaps that is why we worry a little less about whether the next generation will drink w**e. What matters more is that they understand the people who make it, the terroir and the entire living ecosystem surrounding it: the olive trees, lavender fields, fruit orchards, bees, wildflowers, vineyards and families protecting these landscapes for those who come next.

W**e travel was never simply about drinking w**e. It is about understanding where it comes from, sharing the table and learning to love the landscape that made it 💚✨🤗.

Some places make you want to change your plans and stay a little longer. That is exactly what this serene corner of Tuscany is all about.

Hidden among the vineyards and olive groves of Chianti Rufina, Castello del Trebbio feels wonderfully removed from the world, although Florence is only 15 kilometres away.

There are 900-year-old cellars to wander through, organic vineyards to explore and long, unhurried tastings beneath the castle’s ancient walls. The w**es are led by elegant Sangiovese, accompanied by local Tuscan produce and the kind of stories that could only belong to a castle built in 1184.

Uruguay might just be one of South America’s best-kept w**e secrets. 🍷

We talk a lot about Argentina and Chile, but Uruguay has quietly built a w**e scene that feels completely its own. Small, family-run w**eries, beautiful countryside, Atlantic air, seriously good food and, of course, Tannat — the grape that has become synonymous with Uruguayan w**e.

What we love most is how unhurried it all feels. You can start in Montevideo, spend a few days discovering the vineyards around Canelones, travel towards Maldonado and Punta del Este, or head west to Colonia and Carmelo. There are long lunches, conversations with w**emakers, beautiful places to stay and plenty of reasons not to rush.

And while Tannat might bring you here, there is much more in the glass — from Albariño and Sauvignon Blanc to some really interesting smaller-production w**es.

There are parts of Italy you visit once. And then there are places you start planning your return to before you’ve even left.

Elba is one of those places. 🇮🇹

Just off the Tuscan coast, this extraordinary little island somehow manages to combine everything we love about travelling in Italy: beautiful beaches and hidden coves, mountain roads and spectacular views, tiny villages, wonderful food and, of course, w**e.

Spend the morning swimming in impossibly clear water. Stop for a long lunch overlooking the sea. Drive through vineyards and Mediterranean countryside in the afternoon, taste w**es grown metres from the coast, and finish the day with fresh fish, local olive oil and a bottle of Elban w**e as the sun goes down.

And perhaps the best thing about Elba? It still feels wonderfully Italian.

Come between April and October and every month brings something slightly different — quieter spring days and wildflowers, long summer evenings by the sea, and September and October when the crowds begin to disappear and food and w**e take centre stage again.

For us, Elba is the perfect combination of beaches, landscape, food, w**e and that wonderful Italian ability to make an ordinary afternoon feel like a holiday.

After two unforgettable weeks exploring Elba, we have so many stories to tell. Rather than trying to fit them into a single post, we’ll be sharing our favourite discoveries over the coming weeks—from remarkable w**eries and unforgettable meals to hidden beaches and timeless villages.

Elba is unlike any other Italian island. Still largely undiscovered by international travellers, it remains a cherished summer escape for Italians, who return year after year to enjoy its crystal-clear waters, secluded coves, golden and pebble beaches, spectacular hiking trails and wonderfully simple way of life.

Once known as the island of Napoleon’s exile, Elba has quietly become one of Italy’s most authentic destinations. There are no ostentatious beach clubs or overpriced restaurants here. Instead, you’ll find genuine Italian hospitality, exceptional seafood, elegant family-run restaurants, and some of the best value dining we’ve experienced anywhere in Italy.

What surprised us most was just how much the island has to offer. We visited more than 12 beaches and every single one was pristine. Boat hire is affordable, the coastline is breathtaking, and the island’s own w**es deserve far more recognition than they receive.
