At Ardtornish, you can leave the city traffic behind… and find yourself happily waiting for the cows to cross the road instead 🐄

Some delays are rather easier to enjoy than others.

Just one of the many ways in which life slows down here on Morvern 🤎

"Who pulled the plug?" 💧

Loch Rannoch is looking a little empty at the moment; anybody would be forgiven for thinking we've had a dry summer!

🔧Loch Rannoch is a man-made hydro reservoir, created by damming the River Rannoch as part of Ardtornish’s hydro programme. It has been intentionally drained while essential repairs are carried out to the dam wall.

With the water gone, a hidden landscape has been revealed, including traces of the excavation carried out when the reservoir was first created and the contours of the valley that normally lie beneath.

What we see today is just one chapter in a much longer story. Long before the hydro scheme, the land was home to people, livestock and working settlements, and traces of that earlier landscape can still be found.

For now, the repair work has temporarily given us a glimpse of a landscape that is usually hidden beneath the water — before the River Rannoch covers it once again 🌿💧

The sunshine has sunshined over Ardtornish today ☀️

A perfect afternoon to sit out in the garden of your holiday cottage, listen to the herons, pour a glass of w**e, soak up some vitamin D and… well, not very much else 💛

From fully enclosed gardens and dog-friendly cottages, to homemade biscuit bones waiting at The Coal Shed Café, we like to think we go the extra mile to make four-legged guests feel just as welcome as their humans here at Ardtornish🐾

So we were rather delighted to be featured by EmbraceScotland as one of the best dog-friendly holiday destinations in the Highlands.

With miles of woodland and coastal walks right on the doorstep, there’s plenty for adventurous pups to explore — and plenty of cosy corners to curl up in afterwards.

If your perfect Highland escape includes muddy paws, big walks and a happy dog, have a read… 🐶🌿

When you think of a 'home-away-from-home', what does it look like to you?

For us, it looks a little like this. Washing on the line, a cottage door left open to the sunshine, muddy boots by the step and the feeling that, for a little while, you belong here.

Our traditional cottages see generation after generation of families coming to enjoy time in nature - remeniscing on first visits and creating first time memories, and all the while growing our Ardtornish family.

Whether it’s a favourite family photo or simply a moment of doing very little at all — share your pictures with us in the comments. We’d love to see Ardtornish through your eyes 👇

Ardtornish Farm cattle live a good life, with – as you can see – even better views over the Sound of Mull.

Our cattle are free to roam across the hillsides with their 'no fence' collars. They’re also responsible for producing rather good beef, which we’re proud to serve at The Coal Shed Cafe (have you tried a sausage roll yet?) and in our homemade ready meals at The Old Dairy Gift Shop.

So, while this particular herd may look like they’re simply enjoying a peaceful afternoon with one of the best views in Morvern, they’re also quietly doing their bit for the estate-to-plate journey and contributing towards a sustainable food offering for our guests and community 🤍

It’s a tough job, but someone’s got to graze somewhere this beautiful🐂
