“We don’t need a travel agent, we’ll just book it ourselves, we’ll be fine!” 😬

I've heard it many a time and yes, most of the time you probably will be, until you’re not! Watching all the airport chaos over the last 24 hours, with flights delayed and cancelled and passengers standing in huge queues trying to work out what on earth they’re supposed to do next, I bet a few of them are wishing they had a travel expert in their corner right now! Someone making the calls, looking at the options and helping sort things out, rather than standing there wondering what the hell to do next.

In over 30 years in travel I’ve dealt with flight cancellations, hotel closures, wildfires, hurricanes, floods, strikes, a global pandemic and plenty of other things none of us could have predicted. I can’t stop these things happening (sadly I don’t have that much power), but when you’ve booked with me, I’m there to help when they do. I know your booking, I know who to contact and, with our 24/7 Duty Office behind my clients too, you’re never just left to deal with it all on your own.

Behind every holiday I book…there’s a lot you never see.

It’s something many people don’t realise, so I thought I’d share a little behind the scenes.

When you ask me to plan or search for a holiday, I’m not just searching for prices. I’m drawing on more than 30 years of experience, places I’ve visited myself, trusted supplier relationships I’ve built over decades, and the time I spend researching the holiday that’s right for you.

That might mean comparing different resorts, finding the best flight options, recommending the right cruise line, checking room types, or making sure every little detail is right before you book.

The important bit?

There are no planning fees, no consultation charges and no hidden costs. My advice, time and expertise are all included when you choose to book with me.

As a self-employed Travel Counsellor, I invest my time and expertise upfront. I’m only paid if you choose to book your holiday through me, and only after you’ve travelled. If you decide not to book, or use the itinerary I’ve created to book elsewhere, I don’t get paid for the work that’s gone into planning it.

Booking a holiday is a big decision, and I completely understand that plans can change. All I ask is that we keep the conversation open. If you decide to postpone, book elsewhere or your circumstances change, a quick message is always appreciated. It means I can spend my time giving every client the level of personal service they deserve, and I’ll always be here when you’re ready to start planning again.

I may not always be the cheapest, but I’ll always work hard to find the holiday that’s right for you at the best possible price. The difference is that you’re not just booking a holiday – you’re gaining someone who’s on your side from the first conversation until you’re safely home again. If something goes wrong, you won’t be searching for a phone number or waiting in a queue. You’ll already know exactly who to call.

✈️ Being able to book a holiday doesn’t make you a travel expert.

There’s been a huge rise in people becoming travel agents as a “side hustle” – often after a short online course and with very little experience of the travel industry.

And whilst booking a holiday when everything goes perfectly may seem straightforward, it’s when things don’t go to plan that experience really matters.

I’ve worked in travel for over 30 years and I’m still learning every day.

During that time I’ve helped clients through flight cancellations, strikes, ash clouds, severe weather, natural disasters and major worldwide events – sometimes completely rearranging travel plans while clients are already away.

I don’t work alone either. As a Travel Counsellor, I have an incredible network behind me, including 24/7 support, so my clients always have someone to turn to.

Before trusting someone with thousands of pounds and one of the most important purchases you’ll make this year, it’s worth asking:

🔎 How experienced is the person actually booking my holiday?
🔎 What financial protection is in place?
🔎 Who will help if my flight is cancelled or my plans change?
🔎 And most importantly… who answers the phone when something goes wrong?

There’s a big difference between selling travel and knowing travel.

When I mention Lapland, most people immediately think Father Christmas, elves and young children.
But there’s a whole other side to a winter holiday!
