The Malagasy people, represent a blend of different cultures, ethnicities, and traditions. Composed of 18 main ethnic groups, their diversity reflects a rich history of migrations and influences from Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Austronesian roots are particularly evident in the Malagasy language, which bears similarities to languages spoken in Indonesia and the Philippines, while African influence is found in many customs and practices.
Malagasy culture places a strong emphasis on family, ancestors, and rituals, such as the "famadihana" (turning of the bones), which expresses respect towards ancestors.
