Here we go again! Labda kesho - Maybe tomorrow I'll get the start-up video done (still tech issues and not enough time, but I'll get it eventually). My excursion into Kikwe village this morning to visit the schools took more time and energy than I had imagined (really, not a surprise). The beauty of African time is that spending moments with people along the way, especially when walking, trumps one's personal itinerary. Exchanging greetings, asking about the family, and talking about other sundries is the way it goes - fulfilling for the soul; not so much for the checklist. 🙄
So, I leave you with another Dashir start-up photo, which portrays our first water system - oxen and cart, carrying two barrels (400 litres) of water at a time from a manmade channel 1 km away. This was made necessary after two dry wells and no reliable village water system ... and that's another story!

Well, ... :), I was supposed to get some original pics and videos out by now. But, you know, there are some issues. I've sorted through the pictures, and none of them do justice to the feel of the barren land we started with; not happy to start with them. Today, I did find a great 360 video pan, very grainy, that does a great job of the feel of Dashir land back in September 2010. But it is refusing to load to my photo gallery for edits. After a quick Google just now, I am told that since it is in AVI mode I need to convert the format to MP4 or MOV. That will be kesho - tomorrow.
All that to say, subiri kidogo - wait a bit, and I'll be able to share this with you. As a sneak peak (can't leave you with nothing!), here is our first office, waiting for coconut thatch roofing. It took only one day to construct from start to finish!

Today marks exactly 15 years since we set foot in Tanzania to stay! We reminisce a bit in this video, and will share some "start-up" pictures and videos in the next few days.
I wanted to keep the video to 3 or 4 min, and tried to end it at 5 min. But, as many of you know, sometimes "The Plan" is overruled by "The Party," as it should be. :)

What an incredible, energetic info session we had in Winnipeg on Tuesday! (Shirley and I, Darryl, are just getting over "post-session lag" :). With well over 300 people in attendance, the atmosphere was electric; so many were excited about an African adventure.
