Two years ago in September, Kathy and Rick were scheduled to climb Mt Kilimanjaro before meeting up with their safari group of twelve. Unfortunately, Kathy suffered a leg injury just weeks before their intended climb and had to postpone (but they still enjoyed the game safari with their crew).
As Shirley often says, "Waitings that ripen hopes are not delays" (Edward Benlows). Last month, Kathy and Rick returned to Tanzania with much excitement and anticipation to make their Kili-climb dream come true. Here is their testimony about their Kili safari (aka "journey" in Swahili) below.

Thank you, (Darryl & Shirley and Dashir Team), for supporting us in our climb to the summit ~ we couldn’t have done it without you! We felt your energy throughout the journey and were so very grateful to have had a 2nd chance to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. We appreciate you keeping our spot to return and take care of all of the arrangements for the team that helped us make it to the top! And what a journey it was!! We have so many amazing memories of these 8 days of hiking up the tallest mountain in Africa! Your connection with (guide) William made us feel like his family too as he took such personal care for our health and wellbeing and we got to know him more as the grandfather of the wonderful team that made sure our journey to the summit and back was safe and memorable. The entire team was amazing! We were amazed by the meals Solomon presented us day after day! Delicious and nutritious!
The entire African adventure was beyond our expectations and we have so many amazing memories and pictures to treasure for our lifetime!!

We took a break returning to Dashir from safari adventures and stopped at a roadside bundle of shops - a gallery of sorts. Soon one of our party was getting dance lessons. She had the right outfit except she was missing the yellow brush skirt. Pretty good moves too! Colorful fun is not far off the road in Tanzania.

One evening Mt. Meru came out of the clouds to backdrop our jumping lesson with some of Dashir's Maasai staff. Clearly, we need more practice and fewer pounds. My excuse is that I was weighted with a ceremonial stick.

A nice line-up of Dashir vehicles get ready to take 14 guests this morning: two groups start their 9-day safari in Tarangire, and two groups head off on day trips to Mount Kilimanjaro and Arusha Town.

Our early morning descent through fog into the Ngorongoro Crater was a bit harrowing. Still our Dashir-provided guide knew we would want to see rhinoceros and he knew where to go. We did get a sighting of four as they ascended to their hideout closer to the rim, but rhino rear ends wasn't the view we had hoped for. Later that day, on the far end of the lake we came across this cooperative fellow. We sat quietly for some time, wondering how such an outstanding creature can be poaching target. Thank goodness, there are places like Tanzania willing to preserve such of nature's gifts.
